JENNIFER GREY, NEW “DANCING WITH THE STARS” CHAMP, ANSWERS QUESTIONS WITH CAST!
It was a long, painful road to the “Dancing With the Stars” Mirror Ball trophy for actress Jennifer Grey. The night before her final dance with partner Derek Hough, Grey was hospitalized after rupturing a disc in her back. “I did not think I was going to be able to dance,” Grey told “Good Morning America” after the show’s finale.
The injury was yet another painful event in a year that had already taken its physical toll on the 50-year-old actress. Grey’s neck surgeon, Dr. Robert Bray, a neurologic spine surgeon and medical director of the D.I.S.C. Sports and Spine Center in Marina Del Rey, Calif., said the actress had four neck surgeries this year. One of these surgeries involved inserting a plate in her neck, while she had other surgeries to remove a cancerous thyroid. Grey suffered a severe neck injury after a serious car accident in 1987, and has suffered from chronic pain ever since.
“Her head was falling off forward. She had a 30-degree angulation of her neck,” said Bray. Bray said the night before the final round of dancing, Grey ruptured a disc in her lower back. “She called me in the morning on the day of the finals and was in tears. She was in terrible pain,” said Bray.
Grey received epidural steroid injections, which helped alleviate the pain, and she was able to walk. Bray said she desperately wanted to dance, but he wanted her to be very cautious.
Bray examined her before and after each dance. Her legs were strong, she was in no pain, and the dances were very short, so he was confident she was in no danger of doing any further damage.
“If it’s not going to harm you, people are better off moving around than sitting around,” said Bray.

Billy Joel is recovering after undergoing double-hip replacement surgery in New York. “Billy Joel is doing extremely well following bilateral hip replacement and will be back at his Long Island home by the end of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend,” Joel’s publicist tells Rolling Stone.
The 61-year-old piano legend had been photographed recently using a cane and underwent surgery last week for a congenital disorder. Joel’s publicist confirms he was able to eat Thanksgiving dinner today. According to RadarOnline, Joel’s ex-wife Christie Brinkley is caring for him. The two divorced in 1994.
“He did them both at the same time,” Brinkley told RadarOnline. “Billy said, ‘If I do it one at a time I know I’ll never go in for the other…He’s really doing well. He’s really coming through with flying colors.”
In the last month, Joel has been promoting The Last Play at Shea , a documentary about his historic final shows at Shea Stadium in 2008. He hasn’t performed since March, and told Rolling Stone in February, “I had made up my mind a long time ago that I wasn’t going to work this year.”
“There was an incident with my daughter that was very shocking,” he said. “I got divorced. I worked a lot. I promised myself more personal time this year. I’m going to Italy, and I’ll probably go to Paris. I’ll probably take my boat to New England and hang out on the coast. I’ll ride my motorcycle. I’ll just be a bum.”
He added, “I see pictures of myself onstage, and I look at them and say, ‘There has to be some kind of mandatory retirement age for doing this gig,’ and then I watched the Super Bowl and saw the Who and I figure, ‘Well, I guess there is no mandatory retirement age.’ ‘I hope I die before I get old,’ — that went out the window. It’s always possible that I’ll tour again, whether it’s with Elton or on my own. I love my job. For now I’m going to stop, but I won’t sit around for the rest of my life and rot.”

The Black Eyed Peas will be the featured halftime performer at the Super Bowl on Fox.
The Grammy award-winning group will perform February 6 at Cowboys Stadium. The announcement was made Thursday during the Dallas Cowboys’ game against the New Orleans Saints.
Since forming in 1995, The Black Eyed Peas have sold more than 28 million albums worldwide and nearly 31 million digital tracks. Their new album, “The Beginning,” is set for release Tuesday.
Last year’s featured performer was The Who. Other halftime acts have included U2, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Paul McCartney and Prince.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston welcomed their third child together, a son named Benjamin, Tuesday night at a Florida hospital. “John, Kelly and their daughter Ella Bleu are ecstatic and very happy about the newest member of the family,” Travolta’s rep said in a statement. “Both mother and baby are healthy and doing beautifully.”
The Travolta family joyously announced Kelly’s pregnancy in May, 17 months after losing 16-year-old son Jett. Baby Ben was born weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

April 29 is the date Prince William has chosen to take Kate Middleton as his wife. The wedding date of the century was announced Tuesday morning by Buckingham Palace. So where and how will this day of days be celebrated?
If you guessed Westminster Abbey, the princess-to-be Kate was spotted touring the facility in the wee hours just last week. It is also the 1,000-year-old steeped in tradition site where Lady Diana’s funeral was held.
Incidentally, while Wills decided to buck any supposed curse and pop the question with his late mother engagement ring, that’s where the similarities between his wedding and his parents’ ill-fated wedding will end. William and Kate are said to have decided early on against tying the knot at St. Paul’s Cathedral, which is where then-Princess Di and Prince Charles got hitched—in front of the world—back in 1981.
As for April 29, that too is not exactly a surprise date, as the British press had found out that William had requested time off from his military duties that week. It also just so happens to be the feast day of St. Catherine of Siena with whom Catherine “Kate” Middleton shares a name, and while that’s a nice coincidence, it had nothing to do with their decision of a date.
And there’s more good news for Britains: the U.K. has seen fit to make the wedding day a public holiday, allowing the masses to fully revel in the pomp and circumstance of the day. Or at least give them a few extra hours in which to secure a prime viewing spot along the streets leading into Westminster.
The royal wedding won’t be a burden on U.K. taxpayers, as the cost (at least for a royal) of renting the hallowed abbey is free, and that Prince Charles and the Middleton family are ponying up for security and all additional fees.

Justin Bieber’s album is called My World 2.0., and it was Sunday night. The 16-year-old crooner owned Sunday night’s American Music Awards, beating out Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem and Ke$ha for the coveted Artist of the Year trophy. And that was just one of the four wins for the teen heartthrob.
Bieber, who became the youngest artist ever to win the AMA Artist of the Year award, raked in the most awards of the night, also grabbing nods for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist and Favorite Album.
Rihanna opened with a medley of hits, singing “Love the Way You Lie (Part 2)”, “What’s My Name” and “Only Girl (In the World) in fishnets and a barely-there sarong. She took home the trophy for Soul/R&B Female Artist, but before Rihanna’s name could be announced, rapper Nicki Minaj took a moment to give a shout-out her upcoming album…though we won’t.
Miley Cyrus belted out “Forgiveness and Love” on a candlelit set, a move she’d clued E! News to earlier in the week.
The Black Eyed Peas later popped out of Day-Glo boxes for a futuristic performance for their new hit “This Time (The Dirty Bit)”. The group trumped Lady Antebellum and Train, taking home the Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group nod.
And not one to take after baby bumpin’ performers of the past (à la Alicia Keys atop a piano at the BET Awards) a pregnant Pink performed “Raise Your Glass,” though she did ditch her aerial acrobatics to keep both feet on the ground.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 scored a franchise-best $125.1 million opening weekend. Deathly Hallows Part 1′s opening is the second biggest of the year, behind Iron Man 2′s, and the sixth-biggest in Hollywood history, behind the likes of New Moon and all-time record-holder, The Dark Knight.
Worldwide, Warners Bros. said, the film has taken in a whopping $330.1 million since Friday’s sold-out midnight shows. The scary part of this is that Deathly Hallows Part 1 made its money without the benefit of 3-D ticket prices. “Conservatively, [the studio] probably left about $20-$25 million in another dimension by sticking with 2-D on opening weekend,” Exhibitor Relations box-office analyst Jeff Bock said in an email.
Warners exec Dan Fellman said there were no regrets. “I think we made the right decision for us and our fans,” Fellman said today. “…We will save that [3-D] for the finale.” For Russell Crowe’s planning purposes, Deathly Hallows Part 2 is set to open next July. Crowe tried opening his new thriller The Next Three Days (fifth place, $6.8 million) against the 2-D Potter, and didn’t have much any luck.
