As many have asked over the past decade, How does a network that shows no music videos get to have an awards show about music videos? Maybe they should call it the MTV Video Jackass Mashup because it seems bent on spectacle or social networking than actual viewing. The VMAs notched 19,175,032 mentions across Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle, besting the second-biggest event ever, this year’s Super Bowl, by almost 2 million mentions. The 2012 Grammys rank third. The VMAs registered 12.8 million social media comments, while the Grammys notched 13 million. But MTV lost half of the viewers they had from the previous year’s Video Music Awards. The 2012 MTV VMAs were still the top show on cable with 6.1 million viewers and a 2.8 Nielsen rating. However, 2011′s award show set records with a ridiculous 12.4 million viewers and a 6.2 rating. You can see the highlights or spectacle of your choice on my website link CLICK HERE!
