Official NASAtelevision video of Space shuttle Endeavour, perched atop NASA’s 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft landed at Los Angeles International Airport at 12:51 p.m. PDT, ending a cross-country ferry mission and returning to its place of birth, California. Endeavour was NASA’s fifth and final space shuttle to be built. Construction began on Sept. 28, 1987 and it rolled out of the assembly plant in Palmdale, Calif. in April 1991. Endeavour will be removed and placed on a special transportation system and moved into a United Airlines hangar, where it will remain for several weeks while final preparations for its transport and display at the California Science Center are completed.
Space Shuttle Endeavour arriving in L.A. Friday after a 5 hour final fly-over of Northern & Southern California piggybacked aboard a 747. My oldest daughter Michelle was part of the Shuttle program while working at Boeing here in L.A., and is shown at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida as one of NASA’s Space Flight Awareness honorees program a few years back for her quality work contributions & success of the space shuttle missions. Michelle is pictured here with her husband Steve on the far left and astronauts Terry Wilcut (top) and Janice Voss (below). It’s one of NASA’s highest recognitions as honorees were invited to watch a shuttle launch, meet the astronauts, and receive a congratulatory letter, pin & certificate for outstanding work in the shuttle program! I couldn’t be more proud of my Michelle, especially watching the final shuttle arrive for it’s home in L.A.’s California Science Center Museum next month!
How most people feel leaving work on Friday:)
