ANGELINA JOLIE KNOCKS OFF OPRAH WINFREY FROM TOP OF FORBES LIST!
In Forbes’ annual Celebrity 100 Power List, after two years at the top, Oprah Winfrey has seen her pop culture clout drop a notch (according to the magazine editors, not America’s housewives) on the glossy’s power list. Overtaking Winfrey as the most powerful celebrity in the world: longtime list rival Angelina Jolie.
While Winfrey is indisputably the highest celeb earner of the past year, raking in an astounding $275 million, Jolie’s ever-pervasive face apparently made up the difference in salary, as Brad Pitt’s better half made a comparatively paltry $27 million. (Forbes bases its ranking on earnings and media exposure.)
Speaking of Pitt, he held up his end of the power coupling, coming in at No. 9 on the list. While he was the highest-ranking actor on this year’s rundown, his ego shouldn’t get too high: Jennifer Aniston just edged out her ex, landing at No. 8.
As for the rest of Hollywood’s reigning power players, it’s mostly business as usual, but with a few surprises…
Chief among them the ranking of our commander in chief. While President Barack Obama has another first to add to his resume—this time, being the first sitting president to land a spot in the Celebrity 100—the honor is not without its indignities…like coming in five spots lower than E!’s own Ryan Seacrest (a respectable No. 44), who banked $38 million thanks to his nightly news gig, American Idol hosting duties and radio shows.
As for the premiere power players, Madonna and Beyoncé (who doubles as the issue’s cover girl) came in at Nos. 3 and 4, with 2008 earnings of $110 million and $87 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods was the highest-ranking athlete (and male) on the list at No. 5, ahead of Kobe Bryant, who fell in line at No. 10. Also representing the men, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Spielberg at Nos. 6 and 7, respectively.
Elsewhere on the list, Miley Cyrus came in at an impressive 29; Drew Barrymore ranked 87th; David Letterman was the highest ranked late-nighter at 14 (Jay Leno came in at 43, Jon Stewart at 93 and Conan O’Brien didn’t rank); 50 Cent fittingly landed at No. 50; teen dream Taylor Swift strummed her way to No. 69; Twilight mastermind Stephenie Meyer came in at No. 26; Hugh Laurie landed him at No. 94, and list newcomers Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin checked in at 64 and 91, respectively.
Danica Patrick brought up the rear in the 100th spot, but perhaps the most surprising entry, particularly for any celeb left off the list, is No. 99: Jennifer Love Hewitt.
NO BUTTS ABOUT IT: EMINEM TOPS THE ALBUM CHARTS AFTER MTV AWARDS!
Eminem may have bailed out of the MTV Movie Awards after getting a face full of thong from Sacha Baron Cohen in which the rapper was the literal butt of the joke. Butt it is paying off.
Relapse recorded it second straght week at No. 1, selling another 211,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, per Nielsen SoundScan numbers released today. The rapper joins Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson as the only solo artists to notch multiweek chart-toppers this year.
Now here’s the truly impressive part: Eminem sold nearly as many copies in his first two weeks as the girls sold in their nine chart-topping weeks combined 819,000 copies to 830,000!
Marilyn Manson, led all debuts, selling 49,000 copies of The High End of Low at No. 4. Unfortunately, that’s his lowest first-week figure this decade. Meanwhile, Mandy Moore sold 16,000 copies of Amanda Leigh to open at No. 25 bow. Though the new Mrs. Ryan Adams never had particularly big first weeks, her albums haven’t achieved gold sales status since the early aughts.
Here’s a Top 10 recap:
1. Relapse, Eminem
2. 21st Century Breakdown, Green Day
3. Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack, various
4. The High End of Low, Marilyn Manson
5. The Fame, Lady Gaga
6. Greatest Hits II, Kenny Chesney
7. La Revolución, Wisin & Yandel
8. Veckatimest, Grizzly Bear
9. Fearless, Taylor Swift
10. Unstoppable, Rascal Flatts
VAMPIRE LOVERS! PREPARE TO BE DRAGGED BACK INTO THE “TWILIGHT” ZONE!
JAY LENO SETS NEW PRIME TIME SHOW DEBUT FOR SEPTEMBER 14TH!
Trying to avoid stealing too much of Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show thunder, NBC waited a respectful 10 whole hours after his inaugural effort before turning the spotlight back to Jay Leno, announcing he will make his prime-time debut on September 14.
The Jay Leno Show, aka the Earlier Night Show, will play to its host’s strengths with a nightly monologue, star guests and several of Leno’s 17-year-and-running signature bits, including Jaywalking. Leno will again be joined by bandleader Kevin Eubanks.
That said, Leno will be taking slightly longer to return to the small screen than O’Brien estimated last night. “He’s going to be coming back on the air in…I think two days, three days tops,” the new host said while paying tribute to his predecessor.
And while Leno acknowledged last month that he faces stiffer competition in prime time, if his ratings are anything like O’Brien’s were last night, he’ll have nothing to worry about.
The Jay Leno Show will air weeknights at 10 p.m.

CONAN RACKS UP HUGE MONDAY NIGHT RATINGS IN TONIGHT SHOW DEBUT!
The audience for Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show hello was 173 percent—yes, 173 percent—bigger than the audience for his Late Night goodbye, NBC said Tuesday. And now you know why David Letterman was dead set on moving to 11:35 p.m. all those years ago.
There was no word yet on exactly how many people tuned in O’Brien. But NBC said the Los Angeles transplant helped the storied Tonight franchise to its best overnight Monday ratings since Jay Leno paid tribute to Johnny Carson after the late-night icon’s passing in January 2005.
Leno’s 17-year Tonight Show run ended Friday, with a top-rated final show that outdrew O’Brien’s first show by about 23 percent. It’ll take a while to see if O’Brien can keep up the everyday, Nielsen-winning pace set by Leno—and, more interesting, to see if people prefer a Letterman-influenced host to the real, live Letterman. In the nation’s top TV markets, the new-era Tonight Show, featuring inaugural guests Will Ferrell and Pearl Jam, beat an all-new Late Show by 154 percent.
Letterman, however, remained unbowed. “I’m still here. I knocked off another competitor,” he joked in Monday’s monologue.
