AND YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD A BAD DAY YESTERDAY……..BOAT GOES IN FIRST!
THE “I LOVE YOU, JAKE MINOR” VIRAL VIDEO MARKETING IDEA THAT FAILED!
Marketing whizzes for a movie called “I Love You, Beth Cooper” figured that a good idea to generate “buzz” would be to pay some valedictorian for a product placement in her high school graduation speech. They were wrong.
They paid Kenya Mejia $1,800 to say “I love you, Jake Minor!” in her actual graduation speech, the idea being that she would say she was inspired to call out her crush by seeing the same thing done in this movie, I Love You, Beth Cooper. Then the video of this would “go viral,” supposedly. But the movie bombed. “Even Ms. Mejia hasn’t seen it.”
The Fox-produced-but-supposedly-just-amateur YouTube video the company posted of the stunt barely has over 2,000 hits. The school district was very upset when they heard what happened, and the “Jake Minor” character that Kenya called out as her crush is not even her boyfriend. Although her boyfriend supposedly “endorsed it,” hopefully for a hefty cut of the check. Furthermore, Jake Minor has a girlfriend of his own. His assessment of Kenya: “She’s pretty quiet.”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JULY 29TH, TO LESLIE EASTERBROOK, ONE OF MY HOMETOWN GIRLS I GREW UP WITH IN KEARNEY, NEBRASKA. SHE USED TO CONSTANTLY ASK FOR REQUESTS TO BE PLAYED WHEN I WAS THE KEARNEY YOUTH CENTER DJ AND SHE WAS IN JUNIOR HIGH. SHE WENT ON TO SING THE SUPERBOWL 17 NATIONAL ANTHEM, STAR AS THE TALL BLONDE OFFICER IN ALL THE “POLICE ACADEMY” MOVIES, AND WAS RHONDA, THE NEIGHBOR NEXT DOOR, IN “LAVERNE & SHIRLEY”!

Who says wedding ceremonies have to be boring? One fun couple from Minnesota chose to have a party and boogied down the aisle. EVEN JOHNNY DEPP MADE A SURPRISE APPEARANCE AT COMIC-CON THURSDAY!
There had been murmurs that Johnny Depp, one of the stars of Tim Burton’s way weird live-action adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, would drop by Thursday morning’s Disney 3-D panel. And he did.
In fact, Depp stopped by, said five words and then left. After screening a custom-made trailer for his Comic-Con fans, director Burton asked the crowd if they would like to meet the “imaginary friend” that follows him around.
The crowd cheered and Depp, who plays the Mad Hatter, walked onstage in a button-up shirt and fitted black vest. He had long bangs sweeping the side of his face, and wore a thick leather bracelet. After several moments of cheering, Depp whispered into the microphone “Hey. Happy to be here.” And then, he was gone.
Moderator Patton Oswalt told the crowd that Depp could reappear later in the day, so “be nice to every guy you see dressed like Jack Sparrow.” Meanwhile, Burton said he’s still filming the CGI-heavy fantasy flick, due next spring, and that he feels there’s a “white rabbit with a stop watch” timing him.
In terms of plot, he also dished that there was an effort to make Alice (Mia Wasikowska) more active in the story rather than a bunch of “weird scenes” happening to her. Oh, and remember that Depp isn’t the only person in this movie: Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter also star.
DEMI LAVATO ROCKS BARNEY THE DINOSAUR ON JIMMY FALLON SHOW!
Demi Lovato’s purple past became her present Thursday night when she appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Taking a cue from both the 16-year-old starlet’s early beginnings as a regular on Barney & Friends and her affinity for making YouTube clips with bestie (and fellow dinosaur show alum) Selena Gomez, Jimmy asked Demi if they could make a video of them belting out a metal version of the very mellow theme song to that popular kids’ program.
Never have the lyrics “I Love You, You Love Me, We’re a Happy Family” sounded so hard-core rock.
T.R. KNIGHT TALKS IN “ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY” WHY HE LEFT “GREY’S ANATOMY”!
T.R. Knight’s character on Grey’s Anatomy will be killed off to start the season because the actor was leaving the show. Series creator Shonda Rhimes has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the young doctor will flatline forever during the season premiere, airing September 24. Last we saw the poor chap was during last season’s finale, when he was at death’s door and unrecognizable after being hit by a bus.
Meanwhile, Knight, reveals to the magazine for the first time why he decided to ditch Seattle Grace. The actor, no surprise, was not happy with his diminishing presence on the show. He never asked Rhimes for an explanation. “My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George],” Knight told EW.
He claims his relationship with Rhimes was never the same after she apparently discouraged him not to come out after Isaiah Washington’s infamous f-word outbursts. “I think she was concerned about having my statement come out so close to the [initial] event,” Knight said.
Rhimes remembers things quite differently, insisting that she supported the decision and thought his coming out was “awesome.”
Knight realizes not everyone will understand—or appreciate—his decision to walk away from a $14 million paycheck. “There are a lot of people who would like to be in my position,” he acknowledged. “But in the end, I need to be fulfilled in my work—that’s more important than the money. [So] that’s the goal. If I’m lucky to ever work again.”
In September, Knight will star in the Tony-winning Parade in Los Angeles. Then it’s off to New York in February, where he’ll headline the Stanley Tucci-directed Broadway revival of Lend Me a Tenor.
