Where Are You, Charlie?

From: Linda Teichmann

And why DID you leave K-BIG? And why is it MY.FM? I don’t like all these changes! And I definitely miss waking up to YOUR voice in the morning. I’ve given the new program a shot, but am not happy. Irma’s the only familiar voice and is the only reason that I’ve stuck it out THIS long, but……………

One of your many loyal fans, Charlie…….Please fill me in.

Hi Charlie

From: Richard Harris

Charlie

I too switched to KOST when you left. Can you tell me what has happened to L. A . Radio? I just went out and bought a Satellite Radio. Goodbye regular, hello commercial free. I will go back when you come back, long time Tuna fan from the 93 KHJ Days and so on.

Happy Holidays!

From: Judy Hashizaki

Dear Charlie-

Just read the latest news of the engagement. Congratulations to all. I recently got married, too…after 10 years with the same wonderful fella. We’re no spring chickens and were both were married before, so we took it nice and slow this time.

My HUSBAND and I still miss you greatly. We’re wishing you the very best. We’ll keep checking back for more news.

Mele Kalikimaka!

Hi Charlie

From: Mark Gould

Hi,

I am one of your thousands of loyal listeners that is angry at what happened to you. You are a class act. I have seen you in person a couple of times at Pierce College and the Hollywood Bowl and you always entertained the crowd. I actually won and still have the Charlie Tuna Creamer for submitting a joke that you read on the air. I also called you a few times on the air and I remember one time you asked me where I was calling from, I said Jupiter, and you were laughing for about 15 seconds on the air then said at least I was honest about it.

I am sure you are asked this all the time, but do you anticipate getting back on the airwaves in Los Angeles. Is there a chance you could be back on XM or Sirius, on television as a game show host, or maybe broadcast via the internet? You are just too good not to be on the air. In my opinion Clear Channel doesn’t have a clue about what the public wants in radio. I am glad you decided to put up your web site. Even though you might be on the radio, I still can enjoy your “sense of humor”.

Still miss you

From: Yolanda Arias-Arenas

Hello Charlie,

I thought you were joking when you said it was your last day on the air but of course it was true. I am glad you got to say good-bye but it’s just not the same without you.

I have not listened to the station since and I don’t know how they’re doing but it can’t be good.

I switched to KOST and now we lost Kim, what are those management idiots thinking? They’re completely destroying radio.

Please let me know where you end up, I loved listening to you.

I hate to say it but I’ll have to just listen to Jack FM, no DJ’s, that way I can’t be upset if someone leaves.

All the best.

Regarding the list of stuff that drives people crazy on 11/29/07

From: April Gomez

Hi Charlie,

The list of stuff that drives people crazy did not include:

When your favorite radio station and morning DJ are taken off the air suddenly and replaced with a boring morning show and music that makes you sleepy. And you are left with constantly flipping through stations unable to find a suitable replacement for what was once the only station you’d listen to.

**Just thought a few of us could relate to that one.

Thank you for all the great times at KBIG. I started listening to your show on KBIG after Howard Stern left the airwaves for satellite and from then, until your departure in September this year I was a faithful listener every morning to KBIG. It is a shame and I have emailed MYFM to express my dislike for the new format and morning host. They responded by giving me your website address and the tone of the email made it seem as if I am the only to email them with a complaint about the change. That’s business for you, I guess.

Thank you
April

Friday Morning, November 30th! Big Game Weekend, Another Radio Surprise and My Son Daniel’s Engagement!

Friday morning rain, it feels kinda good, doesn’t it? We certainly need it more than ever in the coming usual rainy months ahead. And there’s a bunch of stuff on the agenda today. But before I get started, if you’re out Christmas shopping this weekend, here’s the perfect gift for the man in your life.

Big Game Weekend! I always look forward to the USC/UCLA football clash because no matter how good either team has played up until this annual showdown, you can throw everything out the window and expect a surprise. Just look at last year when no one gave UCLA a chance (except for me with my on air prediction, with both cheer squads and the USC band in studio), I expected an upset, because in college emotions play such a huge role in sports, and teams rise to the occasion when they’re not given any respect. Just look at this year’s college football season overall. Totally unpredictable by all the experts.

Another radio surprise yesterday, and emails are already coming in to me, as Kim Amidon from the long running Mark and Kim morning show on KOST was cut from her Clear Channel job too. You can read my response to one of the first emails I received this morning as a result, and my conversation with Kim yesterday afternoon, on the “Tuna Talkback” link.

And finally, I’ve saved the best for last. By now you all know it was my youngest son Bryan who designed this website and will be adding a final link this weekend, but it was my oldest son Daniel who suggested I register for “charlietuna.com” as a website over 10 years ago before this whole internet thing really ramped up and it was still available. Smartest thing I ever did. Daniel then slowly guided me into the new online world and nothing has ever been the same since. So between Daniel and Bryan, who are always there for any of my computer questions or IT problems, this is all possible. I can’t tell you how much they’ve done for old Dad. But back to the story…..

After Thanksgiving dinner last week, my oldest son Daniel surprised his girlfriend Lisa with a ring and proposal. This coming less than 6 months after my youngest son Bryan has gotten engaged to his now fiance Liz.

Here are the highlights in pictures. The ring pictured below, by the way, is another custom design based on an antique-ish looking ring that Lisa saw and loved a while back, according to Daniel. It’s from Torgny and Co. Jewelers in Thousand Oaks, who also created a custom ring for my son Bryan’s engagement proposal. Both my sons and their finace’s were thrilled with the results. Here’s the Torgny and Co. website link.

http://www.torgnyandco.com/

Daniel and Lisa watching what Lisa thought was going to be their annual favorite “Elf” DVD, but it was Daniel’s video highlights of their times together and then what was to come it said…..

Lisa’s rush of realization when Daniel pulled the ring box out of an end table drawer next to him.

Daniel begins to explain what’s on his mind this night.

The tears start to come when Daniel opens the ring box to show Lisa.

The kiss quickly followed an emotional “YES”!

A vintage bottle of red wine is poured to toast the occasion.

Lisa waves off anything else to come. It’s been a big enough night for her and Daniel!

Congratulations to you both and welcome to the family, Lisa!
Have a great weekend! Again the “Tuna Clips” features USC/UCLA, the latest radio firing and my response in the “Talkback” link, along with a YouTube audiophile of the last song I played on my last day on the radio over 2 months ago. New “Gallery” photos added today include an actress on one of my favorite series “24″, in the actors section, a fan favorite who’s now on “Private Practice” and one of the hottest bands this time of year in the “Singing Stars” group.

I’ll tell you Monday about my interview with TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) that takes place this weekend for the Japan Televison Network.

Stay dry and safe today!

Charlie

They did it again

From: Evelyn Perrine

Hi Charlie: I can’t believe it. I started listening to KOST after Clear Channel let you go. I can’t stand that guy that replaced you.

SOOOOO Guess What! Clear Channel let Kim go yesterday! That is the second stuppidist thing they have done. What’s next? Will they let Mark go too?

Charlie you and Kim should get together and start your own morning show. You two would be terrific.

Charlie have a wonderful Christmas.
Evelyn and John

Devastated

From: Gloria Palacio

Good morning Charlie,,after 9/17/07, your last day on the radio, i switched to KOST 103.5, and started listening to the Mark & Kim show, well now, I am sure you’ve heard, Kim is now gone,,,now what station will i be able to listen to…..Its just so devasting my favorite radio talk show hosts are gone…..Hoping you will be somewhere in the future, so i can listen to your voice…Devastated, GLORIA

(Note to Gloria: Yes, I am aware of what happened to Kim. I found out with a phone call shortly after it happened yesterday morning. I spoke to Kim on the phone yesterday afternoon and she said she was still in shock, but hoped to continue working somewhere else for a couple of more years. Mark, Kim and I all have the same agent, by the way. I wished her the best of luck and explained that it’s a pretty tight radio job market out there right now, with more cutbacks expected on L.A. radio stations and the remaining available host slots tied up with people who have long term contracts. My agent said recently he’s never seen a crazier time in the business with more layoffs and firings expected nationwide in radio. It’s not about popular personalities now, it’s about a body count reduction.)
