Chelsea Banton, 14, was fighting for her life after a bout of pneumonia, a collapsed lung and subsequent infections saw her breathing with the aid of a ventilator at Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital in North Carolina.
As her family gathered to say their final goodbyes and mother Colleen faced the decision on removing her life support, hospital staff noticed a mysterious bright light outside her room. “On the monitor, there was this bright light. and I looked at it and I said, ‘Oh my goodness! It looks like an angel!”
When nurses then took off her oxygen mask, Chelsea’s vitals returned to normal. A month later, she returned home in time for her 15th birthday. “The nurse who saw the image in the monitor said, ‘I’ve worked here 15 years, and I’ve never seen anything like it’,” Mrs Banton said.
Chelsea’s mother captured the baffling light on the CCTV monitor with a digital camera. “If people doubt it, that’s fine … but I know what I saw, and the picture’s untouched,” Mrs Banton said. “I didn’t make it up. I look at things differently than I used to, because I know God is in control.”
Amazingly, it wasn’t the first time Chelsea had escaped a brush with death. Doctors reportedly gave her 36 hours to live after she was born five weeks prematurely, but she recovered to lead a relatively normal childhood. “I’m learning that every day she’s alive is a miracle,” Mrs Banton said.

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt battled it out at the holiday box office this past Christmas weekend, and Jennifer was the winner! Aniston and Owen Wilson’s Marley & Me stayed strong after its record Christmas Day opening, taking in an estimated $37 million from Friday to Sunday.
The four-day grosses between Aniston and Pitt showed Marley & Me, $51.7 million; Benjamin Button, $39 million.
Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button grossed $27.2 million during the same three days. In the rankings, it fell from second on Christmas Day to third for the weekend, but posted a bigger per-screen average than Adam Sandler’s Bedtime Stories ($28.1 million Friday-Sunday).
Aniston, Pitt and Sandler represented just the start of the star parade. The holiday box office also boasted new films from Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
DiCaprio and Winslet’s Revolutionary Road was a Titanic in limited release, averaging a 2008-best $64,000 at each of its three theaters, for an overall gross of $192,000. Like Benjamin Button, Cruise’s Valkyrie outgrossed Bedtime Stories theater for theater, but came up short in actual dollars, taking in $21.5 million over the weekend for a fourth-place finish.

SINGER-SONGWRITER-PRODUCER DELANEY BRAMLETT, DEAD AT 69!
Singer-songwriter-producer Delaney Bramlett, who penned such classic rock songs as “Never Ending Song Of Love” and “Let it Rain”, and worked with musicians George Harrison and Eric Clapton, has died. He was 69.
Bramlett died Saturday shortly before 5 a.m. at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles as a result of complications from gallbladder surgery, his wife Susan Lanier-Bramlett said.
Born in Mississippi, Bramlett enjoyed a career in the music business that spanned 50 years. With his then-wife Bonnie Lynn, he created the Southern blues-rock band Delaney & Bonnie & Friends. The group opened for Blind Faith, which featured British guitarist Clapton, in 1969.
He is perhaps best known for standards such as “Superstar,” co-written with Leon Russell, which was recorded by Usher, Luther Vandross, Bette Midler, The Carpenters and most recently, Sonic Youth, in a version featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack of the movie “Juno.”
He co-wrote “Let it Rain” with Clapton, who also recorded it, and “Never Ending Song of Love,” which was recorded by more than 100 artists including Ray Charles, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Patty Loveless and Dwight Yoakam.
During his career, he performed, co-wrote or recorded with stars such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Dave Mason, Billy Preston, the Everly Brothers and Mac Davis. He also produced artists including Etta James and Elvin Bishop.
He recently released an album, “A New Kind of Blues,” on independent label Magnolia Gold Records.

President-elect Barack Obama’s vacation was briefly darkened by a power outage on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Obama was staying in a $9 million, five-bedroom oceanfront house near downtown Honolulu with his wife Michelle and his daughters Malia and Sasha, the Associated Press reported.
Street lights in the neighborhood went dark about 6:45 p.m. Friday and no lights were visible inside Obama’s rented compound for at least two hours, the AP said. The power outage was apparently triggered by a lightning strike.
Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann said three backup generators had been installed earlier and a fourth — sent by Republican Gov. Linda Lingle — was turned away. “He (Obama) replied he didn’t need anything, was grateful for our offer and was going to put his family to bed,” Hannemann said.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the actress whose best-known role was the wife and, later, widow of Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, died Thursday at her Bel Air, California home, Roddenberry.com said. The reported cause of death was leukemia.
Billed through much of her acting career as Majel Barrett, the dark-haired Roddenberry played Dr. McCoy’s blonde, beehived assistant, Nurse Chapel, on the original 1966-69 Trek series. She also supplied the voice of the USS Enterprise’s computer—a service she continued to provide through the franchise’s various offshoots, including J.J. Abrams’ upcoming big-screen reboot, Star Trek.
