I sure miss you on the air. On your last day, I e-mailed a friend of mine who worked at another station in your office and had him give you my e-mail. It just told my many memories from years of listening to you and being a loyal follower of you. I remembered your morning breakfast serials/cereals, your sports talk with Ed Arnold, your top 10 lists and entertainment reports and interviews. I went to personal appearances and events and I even won tickets to Disneyland’s Space Mountain opening – from you! And when I was in college and had to research and interview someone, you were kind enough to spend a couple of hours with me. I still have that tape(cassette). Your true quality came though in everything you did. You have a talent for making everyone you speak with feel important and be important to your audience. You seem like such a real and genuinely nice person and it really comes across the airwaves. I enjoyed your marriage of Kiis AM and FM, and how on anniversaries of the earthquake, you played ‘I Feel The Earth Move’ as you did when it happened. Since you’ve been off the air, I have not found any person or station that comes even close to your shows. I never really listened around before – because I listened to you – but so much of what is on the air is not quality. Or the DJ’s do not come across as caring about anyone but themselves – and their shows suffer for it. They are not enjoyable or entertaining – as you always were. They also are not very appropriate for kids – and I ALWAYS felt comfortable having you on with my kids in the car. I can’t wait to hear you again and will keep tuning into your website for updates. I’m ashamed that I haven’t directly e-mailed you sooner – and I do hope that Ron did give you my initial e-mail on your last day. Please know that you did inspire me – and I graduated with my RTVF degree and went into radio myself (office managing/bookkeeping, some trafficing, and on-air sports). As you venture forward, if you ever are starting something and need behind the scenes help, please get in touch. You just are quality and a gentleman from the get-go, and I’d be proud to help or be a part of whatever you might be involved with. I really enjoyed the quote that you left the radio with – your character has always shined through the airwaves. Over and out – Diane Korpinen
I have been enjoying reading your daily updates and check up on what you are up to.
Thanks for keeping us informed and I would like to ask how are those amazing dogs and
cats of yours, any earthquake predictions? Did your Mom get home safe or is she still here with you? I too have given up on your former station, they really miss the mark. Just repeating what so many of your other listeners have said, WE MISS YOU!
Next week I hope to be able to share some of my future plans with you about this business that I love, radio. It’s changing everyday, and I’ve been giving a lot of thought to my next step. You may not believe this, but you’ve played a big part in my decision in ways that will be evident later. Just the very fact that I’ve kept in touch with you with my emails and daily website updates, and you have kept in touch with me with your emails and phone calls with your ideas and thoughts on what stations I should talk to and where I should go and what I should do next, it really gave me an enormous amount of material to help make a long term decision.
Bottom line though, it’s about entertainment and the two of us connecting with each other. Me inside that mystical medium called radio and you listening to whatever’s on my mind that day, whoever’s in the studio with me or who’s on the phone calling in (maybe it’s even you with something to contribute) on the radio. Since I was 5 years old, this is what I wanted to do, and your response has been so overwhelming, I want to continue to do this as long as you’ll be there for me in the audience. It’s more fun than you can ever imagine, and with all the new technology that’s exploding within the radio paradigm lately, it’s only going to get better!
I mention this because the biggest media entertainment event in America is coming up again this Sunday, The SuperBowl. Think about it, it’s become a national party day, retailers key their ads to this big day, 94 million Americans plan to watch it again, and we eagerly anticipate the commercials almost more than the game. Where else does this happen? I hope my medium of radio will start to draw that kind of passion again soon with all our new tools and toys we have to play with.
Over 40 years ago, when I came to L.A. to join 93/KHJ, we had that “SuperBowl” passion and status for that radio station. If you scroll throught the 34 pages of posted emails in “TALKBACK”, you’ll see those call letters mentioned again and again. Our ratings or shares of the listening audience back then were huge, exceding 20% most of the time, today the #1 station in L.A. gets a 5 share. I’m not saying we could approach that 20 level again, especially with all the choices now, but we could and should do better than a 5.
When next week comes, you’ll see where I think I should be for that to happen.
Meantime, I mentioned SuperBowl commercials. Here’s the best from last year again!
AND IN CASE YOU MISSED IT IN YESTERDAY’S “BUZZ”, HERE’S PEPSI’S 2008 SPOT!
“BUZZ” today has breaking Britney news and the latest developments in Heath Ledger’s death, Jessica Alba’s having a boy, Kate Moss proposed marriage, “American Idol” video, and a sneak preview of “Lost” tonight. “CLIPS” has a birthday conversation I had a couple of years ago with Giselle Bundchen, before she was Tom Brady’s girlfriend, “GALLERY” with a 2004 picture of Sara Rue at the Revlon Run/Walk, and Florence LaRue and Willie Williams from the 60′s/70′s hit recording group, The Fifth Dimension. “TALKBACK” has more of those emails that helped make my decision.
Thank you again. Please continue to email me with your thoughts. You’re the best advisors anyone could ever hope for…..you’re my audience that I love!
Hi Charlie, Just dropping by to say hello and hope all is well with you and your family.
Do you still have your cats? (two?) We just recently added another cat to our family. That makes three cats. We also added a Chihuahua that we got from the Orange County shelter. So the animals outnumber us. Us is me, my mother and daughter. I will tell you about our animals another time – they’re just wonderful to be around.
So… we’re still waiting to hear you sometime soon.
Thanks,
Lorraine

Hey, I used to listen to you as a kid, KHJ Radio…I hope you get a station soon cause with your background and what I remember, you’re the best!!!!
Since you left 104.3 I have tried other stations but can’t find you. Are you still on the air – some place, any place? I miss your sense of humor in the mornings. So what’s the scoop on where you are? Give me a hint.
I’m the one that mixed you up with someone from Chicago a while back. So help me find you.
KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS…..READ THE STORIES BELOW!
“BUZZ” today with Gwen Stefani baby news, Britney updates from Dr. Phil’s regrets, to video of her driving her new Mercedes, to her new plan to see her kids, a first look at Justin Timberlake’s SuperBowl commercial, and J.K. Rowlings latest thoughts about another Harry Potter book. “CLIPS” my 1995 interview with Trisha Yearwood, who you saw with her husband Garth Brooks this last weekend, and her comments about being his opening act on her first tour back in the early 90′s. “PHOTO GALLERY” has one of the “Sons of Hollywood” Randy Spelling and the first “Contender” TV champ, Sergio Mora. “TALKBACK” features reaction and anticipation to my comments yesterday.
I, like everyone else am really looking forward to your (hopefully) good news next week. I’m glad to see I’ve not been the only one to check your website daily just to get a ‘Tuna’ fix.
BTW, I was deadly serious about that letter writing campaign. I even downloaded a list of LA Radio stations and addresses just in case we needed to go to the mat for you. Never underestimate the power of a ticked off Scorpio when she’s on a mission.
I have a feeling once we get the info of your next new station and all your fans and listeners tune in, your numbers will crush your former station (insert wicked laugh here) and justice will be served. Now, let’s get you back to work, break’s over buddy.
All kidding aside, you’ve been sorely missed and I can’t wait to program whatever your new station will be on my dial. Have an amazing day.
