K-Earth and Charlie Tuna
|
From: Sylvia Diaz
Charlie,
I am very happy for you, this is wonderful news. I was even more excited to know that I didn’t have to change radio stations because I had settled on K-EARTH 101 since I couldn’t find anything after leaving 104.3.

Charlie –
It is so good to hear you back on KRTH!! Welcome back, and please don’t leave again. I even made it a point to turn the radio on this past weekend just to listen to you again. I remember listening to on KHJ as a Boss Jock….(of course I will claim I was a small child then (LOL)).

From your “almost” namesake
|
From: C.V. Tune
Hey Charlie: Forty years ago, when I was in grade school and 93 KHJ was in its heyday, you were my favorite Boss Jock. So much in fact that I started using just my first initial “C” in front of the rest of my name. So with my real middle name of “Van” and real last name “Tune”, my classmates started calling me “Charlie Van Tuna.” And that stuck with me. Later, in my career as an automotive journalist and ESPN TV and radio commentator, using “C. Van Tune” always got commented on. You have no idea how many times I’ve been asked if I am related to you. So, I just wanted to say thanks for your unintentional help with the future career of this former 9 year old, way back in 1968.
Best regards,
Van
PS: I would love to have an autographed photo. Just let me know what I need to do.

KHJ was the first station I found when I moved to LA in the early 70′s.

Memories of You
|
From: Chris Prouix
Charlie
As a native from California I have been gone since 1986, I have many memories of riding to work with you. I currently work at WILI AM and I-98.3 with some of the Connecticut legends of morning Radio, Wayne Norman (longest running morning show in the state) and Pete Nichols (on the air for 20 years), but in my heart you’ll always be one of my favorites. From a young girl living in Hacienda Heights and hearing you on KHJ, to driving in from Valencia in the early 80’s and mornings on KISS. Seeing your name brings back a lot of memories. Thank you so much for the memories. I’m glad to hear you are back.

Your first day?
|
From: Wayne Manous
Charlie:
Congratulations on your new gig. When was your first day?
By the way, I signed up as an All Access Member.
Yours,
Wayne Manous
(NOTE TO WAYNE: First day on the air at KRTH for me was Saturday, February 9th. Coincidentally that’s the anniversary date of the big Sylmar earthquake in 1971, which I featured the audio from on my debut show. The quake happened just as I was signing on the air at 6 a.m. on 93/KHJ back then.)
