George “Goober” Lindsey of Andy Griffith Show & Hee Haw, Dead at 83!

Posted by: | May 7 at 9:53 a.m.

Sad day Sunday, as news came from Nashville, that George “Goober” Lindsey had died after a lingering illness, at age 83. George can still be seen on TV everyday somewhere in reruns of the Andy Griffith Show, being that iconic character we all came to love! I first met George in person when he served as one of Tarzana, California Ambassadors Of Goodwill in the 80′s, when I served and still do, as the Honorary Mayor of Tarzana. One of his favorite duties as an Ambassador was being a judge for the annual Miss Tarzana Beauty Pageant that I emceed, he told me he always looked forward to that. He was a very good dramatic actor too, stretching his talents from “Gunsmoke” to “The Twilight Zone” before his “Goober” role on the Andy Griffth Show. Below are a pair of interview clips when I spoke with George during one of our visits in the 80′s from my syndicated radio show that I aired this week! Click to play!

“I’ll Have Another” Wins The 138th Kentucky Derby In Surprise Upset!

Posted by: | May 5 at 8:01 p.m.

Breaking sports news video. MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL highlights and more.

“I’ll Have Another”, a chestnut colt sold for a paltry $11,000, ridden by a rookie jockey and stuck in an outside post — blazed past highly regarded Bodemeister in the final furlong of the Kentucky Derby to win by 1 1-2 lengths on Saturday, beating one of the deepest fields in years. I’ll Have Another bolted out of post No. 19 — the first winner from there in 138 runnings of the Derby, and waited in mid-pack on a muggy, 85-degree afternoon at Churchill Downs. Winning jockey Mario Gutierrez made his Derby debut at 25, Gutierrez got his chance to ride I’ll Have Another after trainer Doug O’Neill and owner J. Paul Reddam happened to see him at Santa Anita in Southern California. Gutierrez riding his 15-1 shot timed his move on the home stretch perfectly as the 20-horse field turned for home. Gutierrez moved up between horses around the final turn, positioned his colt not far from the rail and set him down to run. I’ll Have Another overhauled a tiring Bodemeister to win by 1 1-2 lengths. He paid $32.60, $13.80 and $9. He ran 1 1-4 miles in 2:01.83.
