In a 2006 “Salon” interview, Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries stated that he only wanted “the cool kids” crowd of attractive people wearing his clothing, no plus size women, A & F doesn’t even make XL or XXL for them. To quote Jeffries “In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely. The Rolling Stones kicked off their “50 and Counting” tour at STAPLES Center. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood played an extraordinary 23-song set to a sold out crowd. Fans got a special treat when they played “Emotional Rescue,” live for the very first time. “Honky Tonk Women,” “Start Me Up,” “Miss You,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Brown Sugar,” “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “Paint It Black,” and “Gimme Shelter” had fans on their feet throughout the entire show. The band was joined on stage by special guests, Gwen Stefani on a moving rendition of “Wild Horses” and Keith Urban on a smoking performance of “Respectable.” Mick Taylor, who will be a guest throughout the tour, played with the Stones on “Midnight Rambler.” The Rolling Stones ended their two hour plus show with a three-song encore of “Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash and “Satisfaction.

This Sunday is Cinco De Mayo, the 5th of May, but you would be surprised how many people don’t know! It is celebrated in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War, and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.
