Dear Charlie:

I don’t understand! I’ve listened to you for the past seven years and am very upset to hear of the changes. I listen every morning and your last morning I overslept and did not hear your last show. When I turned the radio on at approximately 10:30 a.m. I heard the new name and thought it was strange that there was no promotion on the air for any changes to come. It was not until I watched the news that I learned that you are no longer there. I’m truly in shock!

You have done such great things with the radio station and feel that Clear Channel has made a terrible decision to take you off the air.

My daughter who is 18 years of age now, has also listened to you for the past seven years and is VERY upset of the changes. She enjoys listening to the 80′s music and not too many radio stations play those songs anymore. We both enjoyed listening to Boogie Nights while we worked out at the gym.

KBIG was my favorite radio station and now I must find another station to listen to. I will continue to check your website to find out where and what you’re up to.

Charlie, I wish you the very best and I hope to hear your voice back on the radio very soon.

God Bless.

Your fans,

Mari and Blair

We Wish You Well

Dear Charlie:

With crazy busy days, calling or e-mailing a D.J. has never been a high priority for me, I must admit. But Charlie Tuna is not just an ordinary radio personality! When I was 10 I remember listening to you in the carpool on the way to school. I am 41 now! I think when you were with KHJ, or some other station that no longer exists, I wrote to you & you sent me a promotional ceramic plate. My memory is not that good that I can remember that far back, but a few years ago, when I moved for the dozenth plus time in my life, with my wife & kids, my Mom asked that I clear out my room at my old house and that is when I saw the plate. Not sure where it is now, but I remember saying, “that is a keeper!”

Anyway, so many will be more articulate than me, so please take this brief note as a “we wish you well” note from the usually quiet majority of your fans who always have enjoyed listening to you on the radio.

Ciao, Ian ;-)

Sincerely,
Ian H. Taras, M.D.

And so it is…

Dear Charlie,

I was sad to hear that you would no longer be on the air, as I’ve gotten quite attached to hearing you in the morning. You did a great job, keeping me going in the morning as I got ready for work. My daughter, Rhiannon-8, would listen in to let me know what the community of the day was, as I prepared my coffee and bagel in the morning. At work we have no radio reception and it was quite boring until I was finally able to use the ‘listen live’ feature that kept me going throughout the day. As your show ended I wondered what was to become of K-BIG, which is now My FM. After work, I picked up my kids from my mom’s house and prepared to go home. I notified my kids (Brendyn-16; Thomas-13; and Rhiannon) that KBIG was no more and that Charlie wasn’t going to be on the radio. Thomas (always ready to announce Rhiannon’s emotional status) noted that Rhiannon was sad and got teary eyed. You will be missed in our home, Charlie.

May God’s love continue to shine on you!

Lots of love,

Leticia Murillo

A great loss for what brings us comfort…..

Hello Charlie,

I have to admit, I am not one of your loyal listeners. I have such a long drive from Palmdale to La Puente that I usually switch from one radio station to another trying to find DJs who just want to talk about any topic. I don’t really crave the music. Whenever I hear your voice I really feel the sincerity and warmth that I often find myself not switching anymore and just waiting until you talk again. One particular morning last week I found myself waiting, and waiting to hear your voice but no Charlie Tuna! Instead Valentine speaks! I said to myself, did I stop the radio dial at 98.7? didn’t Valentine just start over there and now he moves over to KBIG? What is going on? Every morning I tried to find the answer by switching back and forth with the 2 stations even though I knew I would not find it. Why does radio do that to people? They did it to Rick Dees. They obviously don’t value relationships that people have built; in this case between the listeners and you, Charlie Tuna. So, I may not be one of your loyal listeners, but I still feel the loss of not having that familiar voice….that warm voice that brings comfort, not to mention information (lots of “oh, I didn’t know that…”). Do not your radio “bosses” know the value of all this, especially in this modern world of technology, where everything seems to get more and more impersonal. I work with high school students. I worry for them and their future since they are at times too engrossed with technology around them (texting instead of just picking up the phone, busy with their Ipods instead of carrying a conversation, etc. They even try to communicate with me by email, which is ok at times, but I would prefer to talk with them face to face).
I hope I will hear that warm, familiar voice again, Charlie. Please keep us updated. I just discovered your website by Google since it was killing me not knowing what happened to you. I am glad you have this website. I am sure your listeners agree with me that it brings us all comfort that you’ve compiled all our emails, past radio segments, etc. and of course your daily emails to us. This surely brought me to tears!

Take care,

You are truly missed

Charlie,

You are one of a kind. So real and down to earth. Great personality. The new MYFM does not compete with what you had going.

K-Big just got me in the mood to get me through my work with pleasure, singing along. The guests that you had daily were very inspiring and great to hear their stories. And the disco concerts and game prizes those were fun.

You just made the radio station what it was. I feel if something is working, why fix it or even change it.

I did some channel surfing after you were gone, but I can’t find the perfect tones to enjoy that are appropriate for work.

Hope you come back soon! Take care of yourself.
