Hi Charlie!
I just wanted to say that the new 1043MyFM stinks! The morning show sucks and it's horrible without you. The rest of the day shows also suck....I also miss listening to Christian Wheel at night (played the best music). I know that they have to move people around, new voice, and personality. But whoever it is making this changes is completely an idiot. The personality between you and Irma keep my busy morning going. After your last day on air, I gave the station 2 weeks to see what is new, but it's awful, especially the music..sounds like country...it's boring. No uplifting whatsoever!
Charlie, please tell your boss that we need you back and the rest of the old crew that were on air before. We really miss you!
The station is nothing without you!
Thanks for listening and take care!

So.........where are you?

Ok Charlie, I’ve listened to you for many years and have been a part of sidekicks coming and going but when it was announced you were the one leaving I was in shock! I didn’t and will never understand why the radio industry has the tendency to announce departures of beloved radio personalities so abruptly. I understand Clear Channel is in the business to make money but they’re also in the business of people which should come first. After all they can’t make money w/out people! So after the shock wore down a bit I logged onto your website and you stated that CC was interested in keeping you around and meetings were going to take place which brings me to the subject of this email….so where are you? I don’t see any updates regarding any meetings! Your loyal fans miss you and want you back on the radio so remind the executives at CC they’re in the people business first and foremost!!!
Always a listener!

Charlie,
Can’t even remember how long I’ve been listening to you, but I know it dates back to KHJ. I will really, really miss hearing your wonderful voice and “takes” on life in generalI’ve lost my best friend in the morning while trying to endure the drive from beach area to USC. I did tune into KBIG after your final morning, but it was the last time, as it’s just a boring, usual station now. I finally had a reason to switch to satellite radio! Take care,

Dear Mr. Tuna,
I can't believe that this transition, and your leaving us, happened so quickly, and I very much miss you and the KBIG I grew up with. During summer vacation I would always love to listen to your morning show, always informative and upbeat. I most certainly hope that Clear Channel will make a way for you to bring joy to thousands of SoCal listeners once again. For now, I want to say thank you for being with us for so many years. You will be remembered as one of SoCal's greatest radio personalities.

Charlie,
Like many listeners, I've been a fan of yours for some time. I recall first listening to you almost every day on Armed Forces Network while I was working my first summer job in 1985 at my father's duty station in Keflavik, Iceland. Although I have lived in the L.A. area for nearly twenty years, I discovered your morning broadcast only two years ago. It was like meeting an longtime friend. My wife and I have been devoted listeners ever since. We will certainly miss you and the rest of the KBIG personalities in the mornings! I wish you the best and look forward to your next success!

Dear Charlie:
I don't understand! I've listened to you for the past seven years and am very upset to hear of the changes. I listen every morning and your last morning I overslept and did not hear your last show. When I turned the radio on at approximately 10:30 a.m. I heard the new name and thought it was strange that there was no promotion on the air for any changes to come. It was not until I watched the news that I learned that you are no longer there. I'm truly in shock!
You have done such great things with the radio station and feel that Clear Channel has made a terrible decision to take you off the air.
My daughter who is 18 years of age now, has also listened to you for the past seven years and is VERY upset of the changes. She enjoys listening to the 80's music and not too many radio stations play those songs anymore. We both enjoyed listening to Boogie Nights while we worked out at the gym.
KBIG was my favorite radio station and now I must find another station to listen to. I will continue to check your website to find out where and what you're up to.
Charlie, I wish you the very best and I hope to hear your voice back on the radio very soon.
God Bless.

We Wish You Well

Dear Charlie:
With crazy busy days, calling or e-mailing a D.J. has never been a high priority for me, I must admit. But Charlie Tuna is not just an ordinary radio personality! When I was 10 I remember listening to you in the carpool on the way to school. I am 41 now! I think when you were with KHJ, or some other station that no longer exists, I wrote to you & you sent me a promotional ceramic plate. My memory is not that good that I can remember that far back, but a few years ago, when I moved for the dozenth plus time in my life, with my wife & kids, my Mom asked that I clear out my room at my old house and that is when I saw the plate. Not sure where it is now, but I remember saying, "that is a keeper!"
Anyway, so many will be more articulate than me, so please take this brief note as a "we wish you well" note from the usually quiet majority of your fans who always have enjoyed listening to you on the radio.
Ciao, Ian ;-)
Sincerely,
Ian H. Taras, M.D.

Dear Charlie,
I was sad to hear that you would no longer be on the air, as I've gotten quite attached to hearing you in the morning. You did a great job, keeping me going in the morning as I got ready for work. My daughter, Rhiannon-8, would listen in to let me know what the community of the day was, as I prepared my coffee and bagel in the morning. At work we have no radio reception and it was quite boring until I was finally able to use the 'listen live' feature that kept me going throughout the day. As your show ended I wondered what was to become of K-BIG, which is now My FM. After work, I picked up my kids from my mom's house and prepared to go home. I notified my kids (Brendyn-16; Thomas-13; and Rhiannon) that KBIG was no more and that Charlie wasn't going to be on the radio. Thomas (always ready to announce Rhiannon's emotional status) noted that Rhiannon was sad and got teary eyed. You will be missed in our home, Charlie.
May God's love continue to shine on you!
Lots of love,

A great loss for what brings us comfort.....
Received: 10/13/2007 @ 12:47pm PST
From: Kathleen De Guzman
Hello Charlie,
I have to admit, I am not one of your loyal listeners. I have such a long drive from Palmdale to La Puente that I usually switch from one radio station to another trying to find DJs who just want to talk about any topic. I don’t really crave the music. Whenever I hear your voice I really feel the sincerity and warmth that I often find myself not switching anymore and just waiting until you talk again. One particular morning last week I found myself waiting, and waiting to hear your voice but no Charlie Tuna! Instead Valentine speaks! I said to myself, did I stop the radio dial at 98.7? didn’t Valentine just start over there and now he moves over to KBIG? What is going on? Every morning I tried to find the answer by switching back and forth with the 2 stations even though I knew I would not find it. Why does radio do that to people? They did it to Rick Dees. They obviously don’t value relationships that people have built; in this case between the listeners and you, Charlie Tuna. So, I may not be one of your loyal listeners, but I still feel the loss of not having that familiar voice….that warm voice that brings comfort, not to mention information (lots of “oh, I didn’t know that…”). Do not your radio “bosses” know the value of all this, especially in this modern world of technology, where everything seems to get more and more impersonal. I work with high school students. I worry for them and their future since they are at times too engrossed with technology around them (texting instead of just picking up the phone, busy with their Ipods instead of carrying a conversation, etc. They even try to communicate with me by email, which is ok at times, but I would prefer to talk with them face to face).
I hope I will hear that warm, familiar voice again, Charlie. Please keep us updated. I just discovered your website by Google since it was killing me not knowing what happened to you. I am glad you have this website. I am sure your listeners agree with me that it brings us all comfort that you’ve compiled all our emails, past radio segments, etc. and of course your daily emails to us. This surely brought me to tears!
Take care,

Charlie,
You are one of a kind. So real and down to earth. Great personality. The new MYFM does not compete with what you had going.
K-Big just got me in the mood to get me through my work with pleasure, singing along. The guests that you had daily were very inspiring and great to hear their stories. And the disco concerts and game prizes those were fun.
You just made the radio station what it was. I feel if something is working, why fix it or even change it.
I did some channel surfing after you were gone, but I can't find the perfect tones to enjoy that are appropriate for work.
Hope you come back soon! Take care of yourself.

No more KBIG for me!
Received: 10/11/2007 @ 10:12pm PST
From: Dianna Leighton
Hi, Charlie!
I know you seem fine with what's happened, but I'm not. The only reason I listened to KBIG was because of you. (Please note: the operative word here is "listened".) I've given a lot of other morning "personalities" a go, but they're totally whack. Most of them rely on tired blue humor, filthy innuendoes and insinuations, and vulgar language. When I listened to your show, I didn't have to worry about having to listen to filth. It was always a safe, enjoyable half hour of good radio that I could rely on upon my daily journey to work. I don't know who I'll tune into, but I can promise you this: it won't be KBIG. I don't know who the junior mint hot shots in management are who made this extremely bad decision to let you go, but I'll bet any kind of money you'll be back a long before they're told to start looking for another job. Please keep me posted about your next gig. Best of luck to you!

From a listener

Hello Charlie:
And yes, I do remember you from when I was a kid...but only for a little as I moved to Maryland in 1971 not to return to California until 1979.
I listened to KOST for a couple of years because Mark Wallengren's son, Ryan, sat next to my son in the fifth grade. But every year, the day after Thanksgiving, KOST would start to play that $%#@ Christmas music nonstop. Okay, a week beforeChristmas...fine...but a MONTH???? So every Christmas, I would tune to KBIG....and you.
And years ago, I just never turned it back.
I'm not one that calls in for the prizes. I'm just one of the silent ones that every morning needs my car radio and every evening, once again...needs it to debrief from a very hard and draining day.
You provided that.
Thank you.
I was shocked at my response to your news that you were no longer going to be there. I'm not sentimental, and I'm NOT a creature of habit. Yet, I was upset...and angry. I talked about it to coworkers.
I went on to your site and read the blurb you basically said on the air. I was sad.
I hope that you had some warning.
I hope that you had a say in this and that this is what YOU want.
I hope that ultimately, this will turn out to be a great turning point for you.
Again....
I'm just a listener. I don't write. I don't call. I just...well...listen.
Thank you...for helping me each day at a time when I really need it the most.
Sincerely,
Amy-Ann Maughan

Hi Charlie,
I was extremely surprised when you announced that you would no longer be hosting the morning show at kbig.
It made no sense to me until I arrived home and found an email stating the new plans for the station. I am definitely not in favor of the new format.
However, I am very grateful for the time that I was able to listen to you and in the morning.
You are definitely a class act. I have never been the type of person to listen to a morning show, but yours was different. Your hosting and interview skills are exceptional to say the least.
The way you conducted yourself on air your last morning was exceptional. You deserve the best.
The Frank Sinatra song was perfect.
I wish you the best in any new ventures that you decide to go with.
Thank you for putting a smile on my face and showing me what it means to be a true professional.

Charlie,
I listened to your last program and I have to say that it seems surreal to me at this point. I have enjoyed you on radio for many years and look forward to your next endeavor because I know you're not "done". I think what impresses me the most about you is your compassion for others. I have always said that when I die, I want to be remembered for what I did for others, not for what I did for myself. Thank you for your work with the Tunathon and Children's Hospital. I too love to help kids in need. In my spare time, I volunteer for the Hugs Foundation (www.hugs4ndc.com ), which is a non-profit that helps children who are victims of near-drowning. My neighbor's grandson Seth is a near-drowning survivor (www.prayforseth.com ) and I spend many hours helping with fundraisers for Seth and the other kids affected by this tragic situation.
Best of luck to you always,

Goodbye Charlie...Goodbye KBIG
Received: 10/11/2007 @ 7:41pm PST
From: Brian LeBlanc
Hi Charlie,
I started writing you a sentimental e-mail about my times with you and KBIG, but looking at the "new" 104.3 is just too depressing.. So I'll keep this short, and say I miss listening to you in the morning, I definitely miss 104.3 KBIG.. and I'm not sure I will ever listen to 104.3 again. What they've done is an abomination.
I know you still work for Clear Channel, so you probably don't want to do anything to risk upsetting them, but is there any way you could start a petition on your website? Maybe if enough people sign it we can not only get you back on 104.3, but get KBIG back as well. As you said, all their changes are about ratings and revenue. Well they've lost one listener (me) with all this change, and from what I heard, they lost a lot more just by getting rid of you alone. Let's see what that does to their precious ratings.
Anyway, best of luck Charlie. I hope both you and KBIG come back some day.

You made the difference

From: Olga Di Guida
Dear Charlie,
I am one of your listeners and was shocked when you said that it was your last day with the show.
I have to say that the story that you recently told ,this past September 11th, really made me think.
I was driving to work and you were telling different incidents that had occured to some people who made it to work late (therefore they are alive today) that may seem insignificant but made a difference. Then you said something as to think that I am where I am right know because that is the place where God wants me to be at this time.
Those words mean a lot to me. They offer comfort.
Your show was always decent, positive, humorous and enjoyable. I believe it was quality radio.
I'm sure that you are and you will be where God wants and would like you to be.
I am sure that you will have another show.
Keep up the faith and outstanding work.
Sincerely,

and I'll say it again. WHAT is Clear Channel thinking?
If I wanted rude, nasty morning people there are plenty of other stations to listen to (some of the Clear Channel).
Your morning show was fun, clean (ok, sometimes a LITTLE naughty) entertainment. Ok for all ages to listen to. Now KBig is just like any other station.
For Irma's sake, I've tried to remain a loyal listener but more and more I'm channel surfing or listening to CDs. So sad.
