Sad Day
Received: 10/10/2007 @ 7:43pm PST
From: Doreen Karsai
Good evening Charlie,
I was stunned to hear that you were being removed from the KBIG morning show. I did grow up with you here in LA. My mom listened to you. When I found you on radio stations, I listened too. It's like one woman commented, it's like you're part of my family.
I met you once, at the Century City Shopping Center when the first fireman's (beefcake) calendar came out. You really haven't aged a bit.
I will keep my eyes & ears open so I can listen to you again. Best Wishes!
Another faithful listener & fan, Doreen

Missing you....

Hi Charlie,
I am probably one of the many hundreds of e-mails that you have received today, and I am sure that there will be hundreds after mine to follow.
I just want you to know that I listened to your morning show faithly every morning, and the station will not be the same without you. I too have followed you since your KHJ days. I imagine in radio, there is no such thing as a permanent job with any station. I do feel, that if your company had truly listened to your listeners, then you would still have a job on the morning show.
This is the second time that a favorite radio show of mine has been disassembled. Country's KZLA was another favorite. To be honest, I have listened to My FM, and I don't like it. It seems to lack the wonderful personality that you and your morning crew brought to the air, as well as the other DJ's throughout the day.
Anyway, I want to wish you the best of luck with whatever you do. You are like your cats ......you always land on your feet. Maybe this is destiny, and it will lead to bigger and better things for you which I truly hope come your way.
Best regards to you,
Cindy Seielstad

I have been in LA for about 5 years and have listened to you all this time, and when I heard you were no longer going to be on, I was saddened. I loved listening to you. I
went across the country for a few months and still listened to you, thank God for the computer. But since you are no longer on the air, I will have to find another station to listen to. I tried listening to this new format but was not too impressed with it. They are
playing a little more country music that what I am accustomed to. I really liked kbig before it changed over to my something or another. Thank you for the years you gave me. Loved it..

I know you're swamped with emails, so I just want to say thanks. If you put together and email list for updates please include mine. You have been with me every morning when I walk my 6 miles. In the last year I've taken off 90 pounds of excess weight and listening to your show has made it fun. The time seems to fly by when I'm listening to the Charlie Tuna show. Thank you again and I hope to find you back on the air waves.

A Happy Sad?
Received: 10/10/2007 @ 3:01pm PST
From: Chris Stephens
Hi Charlie,
I was shocked when you announced your retirement. Your energy, humor, character and spirit came through to me each and every morning driving to work. You started my morning off right by making it fun and interesting, not an easy job these days! I am happy for you if leaving works out in your best interest but very sad for all us listeners you are leaving behind. Wishing you all of the best and have a feeling we haven't heard the last of you yet.
We Love You Charlie,
Chris Stephens
(Note: Chris, You're right! I did not announce my retirement September 17th. In reality what happened, I was fired from my job as the morning man on KBIG. My contract with Clear Channel (who owns KBIG & 7 other stations here in L.A.) runs until the end of this year. They indicated then that they wanted to talk to me about some other opportunities within the Company. So far, no meetings have been scheduled.)

MISS YOU

From: Veronica Robinson
Hi Charlie,
I am a long time listener and I miss the morning show. I have given the new morning show a chance but it is just not the same. He does not know how to interview people. It is sad. The music is the same stuff that everyone else plays and it seems like the same songs over and over again. Clear channel needs to learn that if it is not broken it doesn't need to be fixed!!!!! You always started my day off great. Looking forward to listening to you again.

Hi Charlie,
I was stunned to hear your announcement your last morning. I felt as though I was saying goodbye to a good friend. Like so many other fans, I remember listening to you at KHJ radio. I "found" you again six or seven years ago and have listened to you every morning as I get ready for work. I was so glad when the station removed a gal you were working with, as she was very demeaning to you on air. Now THAT was a wise move by the station, but I don't know what they could possibly be thinking by taking you off the air. Your positive nature and funny, entertaining shows day after day, reflect the love and expertise you have for your career. The management may have something in mind for you, but as a loyal listener, I feel your best placement is over the airwaves.
I will occasionally check your web page (thanks Bryan) to keep informed of any updates.
I wish you the very best!

Charlie,
You have probably got dozens of these. I wanted to let you know my library classes were so disappointed. For the last 5 years we have listened to you every morning. I had you on before the 7th and 8th graders came in. They loved listening to you. I loved listening to you many years ago on KHJ.
I will keep an open mind. I will look on your website often for information. You were a classy person your last day. I would have been ticked. Bless you and your family.

The "Change"

From: Meg Snow
I’m not happy with this change Charlie!! Please make sure you keep your website updated so we know where to find you! People who are just a little bit “more mature” and enjoy a mix of older and contemporary upbeat music are still a viable market so you have to be there for us, Charlie. I hope I’ll be hearing your voice soon you are way too good to not be out there. And yes, character is important and you’ve got it to spare. So you tell the higher ups at Clear Channel that if they know what’s good for them!!
Hurry back!
A big fan,

Please keep us posted via your website as to where you are working. I'll be waiting for news of your new program(s).
And bless you for the many kind things you have done for people and charities over the years. It is a joy to listen to you -- and believe me, that's saying at lot at 5:05 A.M. every morning!!

I hope to be able to hear you back on the air soon. LA radio is your home, we need you!
Good luck and hope to hear you back on the air soon.

Hi Charlie,
My 7 year old son & I had listened to you every morning on my drive into work and school since the beginning of the community. We both had the pleasure of meeting you at Spirit Honda in El Monte, you even put us on the radio…which was so cool…
I can not believe I will not hear your voice anymore on the radio. Since I am at work sometimes I don’t get to hear all that is being said because of everything that is going on around and in my office.
I noticed the web-site changed it is no longer K-Big. We truly miss you!!!!!! Where will you go??? Where will you be??
My Radio Mornings will never be the same with out you!!!!!
Love ya!!

in limbo
Received: 10/09/2007 @ 7:24pm PST
From: Becky McFarland
Charlie,
Here's another one...
I hope 104.3 knew what they were doing b/c I don't understand the format flip. You have a gazillion loyal listeners, including me. These past few weeks without "Charlie Tuna in the Morning" have left me feeling down and in a state of limbo! Very unsettling...the world is not right. I see on your website (thank your son, please) that I am not alone!! I've been flipping channels.... asking my friends who they listen to...popping CD's ....there will be no peace in my morning routine until you are back on the air. I have to add that in the 80's I lived in Bonn, Germany. I listened to you on the armed forces airwaves. Hearing your voice over there was a comforting bit of home, just as satisfying as apple pie or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I listened to you before I moved to Germany and after I moved back to So. Cal.
You are such an extraordinary radio personality that everyone else pales in comparision. You're unsurpassed when it comes to integrity, a clean sense of humor, respect, a role model, interesting interviews, clever bits like Actor's Studio and trivia, support of special causes, and conveying a genuine interest in your callers.
Please add me to your list of people to notify when you grace the airwaves again...I know you say to be patient, but IT'S DIFFICULT. (btw, you had me for a whole weekend on that April Fools bit that Friday not so long ago when you said you'd decided to retire, can't believe I fell for it.)
A loyal fan,
Becky McFarland, Third Grade Teacher, Brea, CA
thank goodness for the internet!

Charlie,
I have listened to you for years and quite frankly you are one of the few radio hosts that puts a smile on my face. You were like family after listening to you after many years..it felt content and safe. I turned on the radio and you were gone. I almost turned around and went home and called in sick. I checked the internet and discovered you no longer on KBIG. That sucks! What station will you be on?
Please keep me posted, so I can smile again. I need balance in my life again. I feel like a family member has moved away. PLEASE COME BACK TO RADIO!

That last song...what was it?
Received: 10/08/2007 @ 6:08pm PST
From: Corrie M. Alvarado
Good day to you Charlie,
I was listening to you that last morning and heard the disappointing news about the change in the station. I find it very sad and as always I find you to be the great person and professional with such dignity and I hold you in great respect.
I wasn't able to catch the song that you mentioned would sum it up at 10 am as you said goodbye and was hoping my son could possibly download it to his ipod for me.. please let me know if it is on pod cast anywhere (the last show)..
You're a true icon and great man, hope to hear you soon on the airwaves....! I'll always be looking for you!!
My son is 18 years old and I am 40 and I have to say it was amazing to see --- a great sadness we both felt in hearing the news. We both shared such a liking for your morning show...I drove him thru traffic every morning through high school from W. Covina area to Montebello and for this past month in his first year at CAL STATE LA and you started as a compromise for our different likes in music to having us become two great fans of yours! I think the fact you can join two such different age groups says it all!!!!
Best to you in all you do!
Corrie M. Alvarado and son - Michael Acevedo!!!
(Note to Corrie and Michael: The last song was called "Cycles" by Frank Sinatra. We can't put songs on a podcast because of the illegal downloading issue, most radio stations and websites aren't licensed for that. You can go to iTunes and Napster, to name just a couple though. If you google or listen to the lyrics on the actual song, you'll understand why it sums up my career so far)

I've never had such a work experience that was both fun and educational. I wish you all the best in the near future and any other endeavours.

She asked me who was going to play her favorite songs; she’s 8. I assured her we’d find you and I would check your web-site daily to see what was going on. Just a little tid-bit on how much she likes you, when she was six she named her fish…you guessed it...Charlie Tuna.

Hi Charlie,
I'm really miss hearing you on KBIG.
And yes, I'm another one of those people who has listened to you since KHJ Boss Radio.
I was a high-schooler back then and since have spent more than 32 years as a policeman. Many a day, I spent on patrol listening to you on a radio bungeed to the dashboard.
In later years, I've listened to you in my office in detectives. (I hated it when they cut you back an hour in the morning).
I understand that change is inevitable, but I don't necessarily have to like it.
I'm going to find myself another station to listen to most of the time. Hopefully, you will be on that station wherever it may be.
Best of luck to you, Charlie, and thanks for all the good times.
Sincerely,
Paul Hill

I am sad that I'm not listening to you in the morning. You were the only reason I would listen to KBIG on the way to work.
I listened on the way to work more for the talking than music.
I used to listen to KEARTH till Robert W Morgan was gone, and was very happy when I found you..
Like I told my co worker you are truly one of the last good radio voices around.
I will be finding another station, as I do not like the change of format or the music.
I wish you luck and I hope to hear you on air again sometime.

Hi Charlie,
I have been a K-Big Listener for years. My work commute from La Puente to Woodland Hills round trip is about 5 hours a day. With Traffic, KBIG was the only thing that made me smile while I was stuck in traffic day after day. The music was great, it gave you a chance to travel back in time where maybe life was less complicated & all about enjoying life. My husband & I always looked forward to Disco Fever. I was only able to make it to the last 2 but was looking forward to many more of them. This new station sucks! Plays the same boring music that does not make you want to shake your booty or even smile, its the same boring stuff all the other stations play. You & K-Big will always be one of a kind, UNIQUE! I will truly miss you every morning. You did change my life!
Thank You for the Memories!

I want my old KBIG 104.3 format back. I miss the cast and morning show. The show is now boring. I don't even care much for the music.
I have been listening more to satellite radio preferably BBC.
I can see why they laid off the entire staff, your salary is now the giveaway.
I miss you but unfortunately this is part of the entertainment industry. I hope everyone was retained yet pulled away from the microphone.
Take care,
