I miss you :-(

From: Kristiana McKelly
Charlie,
I was shocked to wake up to you as I have for several years and hear today at K-BIG is my last day. I thought at first I must have heard wrong and I am not awake yet. I listened closely and no I did not miss hear any thing. I went to your page to confirm that this was not a joke and I am so sad I'm not hearing you in the mornings any more. I listened and enjoyed you and your cat stories, cried during tuna-a thon, listening to all those kids stories. You are a great man and a true gentleman and a great example of what a person should be. You have made the difference in so many people's lives. I will miss you. Thank-you Charlie for all the great years of pure joy. I hope that clear channel comes up with something great for you.

Hi Charlie, I have been listening to you for years, especially way back when (late 1970's when you and Steve Garvey were my faves). I remember when you had a part in the movie "Roller coaster" in 76 and when you went to FM and you announced your real name. I am more of a classical music fan these days and some talk radio (which I think you did a sportstalk show before KBIG). Anyway, you are a class act and I wish you well.
God bless you in your endeavors.
Sincerely,

Charlie,
When I was driving into work, in Tarzana I might add Mr. Mayor, I heard you say it was your last day. Immediately my thoughts went to the April Fool's joke you played on your listeners years ago. Later on the commute you said to check your website. You started off by saying it is not the April Fool's replay. Needless to say I was very surprised.
I have lived in Los Angeles since 1982. I have listened to you on various radio stations throughout the years. You will truly be missed. You are an Icon among L.A. radio stations. I will also look forward to hearing you on a different station. In the meantime, I miss your voice guiding me safely to work each morning.
Wishing you the best life has to offer now and always.
Warmest regards,
Scott Haefs

I hope that you will be on the air again very soon. I have enjoyed listening to you every day, (as you've heard -and will hear from many more people) for many years going back to that Boss radio station @ KHJ! Now I'm dating myself too! It won't be the same without your voice and interviews (you recently interviewed Assembly Member Lloyd Levine and his staff representative, my daughter Barri Worth! I obviously enjoyed that too!

Charlie,
I just wanted to add my voice to the thousands, maybe millions, of people wishing you the absolute best of luck regardless of where you go or what you end up doing. I pray it is on the air in Los Angeles! You have made the mornings so much more bearable for me, on and off, since 1971. There have only been three people I missed when they left the air, Walter Cronkite, Johnny Carson, and Charlie Tuna. I'm the one that won your voice mail
message....I guess I can just call my own phone when I miss your voice. Character really does count and that's why you have made Los Angeles' mornings better for 40 years.

Charlie, Charlie....
My goodness!! I knew something happening over there. Once a producer leaves, then they started sending weird emails with a new name, and now you are leaving!! Oh I hate when radio stations do this!!! I can't believe you have been at KBIG for 7 years. I started listening to you just into your 7 years when I moved up into the foothills of Rancho Santa Margarita. I was in such an area that didn't get the best reception for various radio stations in my apartment. I started listening to you and fell in love with you because you ALWAYS announced the time! So I could listen and not have to worry about watching the clock as I am usually running late for work. Ha ha!! It was then that I realized how great of a guy you were!! I have moved many times since then and even out of state. And I took you and my mornings with you along the way.
Aww... I am going to miss you Charlie Tuna!! But I wish you luck and can't wait to hear you on the air again someday soon!! :)
You're the best!

Dear Charlie,
I'm stunned! I've been listening to the station religiously every morning waking up to my radio alarm clock with your voice. There's something very comforting to hear a friendly familiar voice to start off my work day. I somehow in the back of my head still feel like you're playing that horrible April Fools' Day joke few years back where I was genuinely touched and teary-eyed by the outpour of all the callers when you prematurely announced your retirement... I can't believe it. I'm sad about this news.
Whatever your new adventure may be, I wish you the very best. I'll be checking your website periodically to see if you're at another station where I can hear you once more. Mornings just won't be the same...
Sincerely,
Shirley Oseki-Rivas

LISTENER FROM PENNSYLVANIA
Received: 10/04/2007 @ 4:30pm PST
From: Carol Barton
Hello Charlie!
Wow--am I surprised. I have been listening to KBIG for a little over a year. I lived in SoCal back in the late 1980s. I was there last year for vacation and picked up the station. So when I got back home here to Lancaster PA, I found KBIG on the internet.
Clear Channel is going to lose LOTS of listeners by changing the format......and we will miss you. I have a friend who was in radio for over 25 years..just left last year after Clear Channel and a local conglomerate, Susquehanna Broadcasting, farmed him out to pasture for the 6th or 7th time. There is a lot of competition with satellite and IPODS, but I can tell you, nothing takes the place of personality and the ability to let your listeners feel you are their friend. Charlie, you have the "old school" ability to make everyone enjoy their listening time. You made it "to the show", so to speak. You just said "this is radio"...you are right; it is, but that doesn't make it right. Hopefully wherever you turn up, I will be able to get the station. I currently am Operations Manager for an amphitheater Foundation who books performers for a summer concert series. It is fun...and I hope I can translate the experience to a job back in SoCal. My friends are in Cerritos and I told her about KBIG...she has been a loyal listener ever since, along with her entire office.
All the best to you....I know you will land on your feet. You have made me smile many mornings here at work and I hope to hear you soon.

You Are Missed!
Received: 10/04/2007 @ 3:03pm PST
From: Lorna Mercado
Dear Charlie,
First I want to let you know how upset I was to hear that you left KBig. I've been listening to you off and on since 1980 when I moved out here from New York.
I do appreciate the fact that they let you say goodbye to your fans though. I remember listening to a few DJ's through the years and all of a sudden they were gone with not a word they were leaving or where they went. Believe it or not, that's very upsetting to the loyal fans who spend so much time listening to you every day.
My FM is just not the same and I am already bored with the show, so I have decided that after my clock radio goes off I turn on Channel 5 and listen to the news as I get ready for work. You were a big part of my morning and I really do miss you.
I hope you are doing well and whatever the future holds for you, you will be just as successful as you have always been.
Wishing you much good health and happiness always,
Your loyal fan,
Lorna Mercado

Charlie,
I have been listening to you every morning for the last 2 years from San Diego. The signal is sometimes not clear and I just fiddle with my antenna to make sure that I get you in fine, crisp form. It is definitely not the same without you, I miss the tunathon and many other tidbits. I hope that Clear Channel has something more promising for you, eg Studio President, in return for all the tuna-withdrawals your fans are going through now.
Take care and God Bless You always,

Sad Day

Hi Charlie,
Well, I guess life must continually change. Some good, some not so good. For me, this one falls in the not-so-good category. I'm a "boomer", and I enjoy hearing a realistic, intelligent voice on the radio. Obviously, the type of music has some influence also, but, I can find soft rock in a lot of different venues. I grew up listening to "Wolf Man" in the era of the American Graffiti way of life. Since then, with puberty, dating, Viet Nam, a divorce caused by the mental aftermath of Viet Nam, and a lot of other experiences too numerous and boring to mention behind me, I enjoy listening to someone who seems to be grounded, humble, and grateful to have an audience which varies in age from 5 to 95 years. That is, indeed a compliment to your demeanor over the airwaves. I truly miss your calming voice and clean humor. I have changed the dial to a country station. I have never listened to country and I'm sure it's just temporary insanity, but I cannot fill the huge void that your vacancy has created. It seems that the media has decided that all personalities must sound and act like Ryan Seacrest. Well, media bosses, here is a newsflash! The boomer crowd is still alive and spending money and we would enjoy being catered to just a tiny bit. Indulge us for just a few more years, then we'll be out of your hair. Keep some of the people who made you the mega millionaires you are today.
I know things will go well for you Charlie. I know you are a "good guy" and good guys usually find success. But I, along with many, many others in my generation will miss you until you resurface. Good luck and God speed.

Hi Charlie,
We miss you so much!!!!! Our mornings are so boring without you on the radio!!!!!! I think hard and wonder why they made that decision. I think you are what the community wants…. Not somebody else. Is there anything the people can do to get you back on the air. I have listened to 104.3 it is so boring, you can practically fall asleep listening. Little Edna says “Hi"!!! You are big reason Edna gets up every morning!!!! Little Edna is very sad she didn’t even want to go to school your last day on the air. She wanted to stay home and listen to you. That was her 1st time being absent from school in 3 weeks. Please stay !!!!!! You are great person with a great heart . I am so glad we had the opportunity to meet you. I love to hear you on the radio and let Edna listen to you on 104.3. You are a great Dj and I never worry about anything you say on the radio. As for other radio stations, they are not appropriate and very offensive for some people. Your radio station is for all people of different ages. It's not be the same with out you. Thank you for everything you have given to all the listeners and CHLA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I send you a picture of Little Edna when she was getting treatment. You have brought my little girl a lot of happiness, she has come a long way!!!! She misses you a lot!!!! She doesn’t listen to 104.3 anymore. I had 104.3 set in the car stereo and she always moves it over to another station. Thank you for being part of our life. Hopefully we see you soon!!!!
Love,
The Edna’s

Dear Charlie,
I'm not one to write celebrities and honestly there are just a few people's careers that I have any interest keeping up with. However, you are one of those people. Growing up in the LA area, I remember seeing you on TV, and most recently, you were the voice I woke up to. And that's why I'm writing to you.
I cannot wake up on time since you're not doing the morning show on KBIG 104. I've tried other stations and even a regular alarm. I hope to hear your voice and laugh on some other station soon. I miss you, Charlie!
Sincerely,

I totally agree with one of the emails sent to you by Dianna Tavira... It Sucks without you in the morning (pardon my French!) It's not the same. The music they play now stinks. I liked hearing the variety (70's, 80's, etc) on one station. Pleeeeeeeeeeese come back! Or if you have an input, please let them know our thoughts about the change that was taken place. Please keep your true listeners updated to where you're going so we can all follow.

Enough Good Things Can Never Be Said
Received: 10/03/2007 @ 3:14pm PST
From: Doug Hooker
Hey Charlie,
Thanks for your reply. You weren't teasing when you said you had character. To have the talent that you have and take the time to respond to so many emails is simply not heard of. Only 40 years of Vintage Charlie would have such a personality.
I know radio folks that would give their left arm to have the voice, delivery and talent that you possess.
Please give Bryan our highest accolades for taking time to do," Charlie Tuna News". The Tuna Clips and Tuna Talkback are equally entertaining and interesting. Huh? I see... it's apparent that award winning talents runs in the family.
Thanks Charlie, for communicating with an old country boy from Tennessee that always wanted to hit the larger market radio, but just didn't work out. Your talents and character are quite an inspiration.
I look forward to hearing of good fortunes in the future!
Doug Hooker :-)

Received: 10/03/2007 @ 2:10pm PST

Dear Charlie Tuna,
I was devastated upon just returning from my vacation to learn you aren’t on KBIG any more, and that the format has changed. I wasn’t happy about getting in the car on Monday morning, but I knew I could be comforted by hearing your voice once I did. But I was devastated to learn you aren’t there. I thought maybe you were sick… and I let a week go by before I caught on. What a shame. You are my favorite DJ and a truly a legend! I will be sending Clear Channel an e-mail as well to discuss this great loss to the station.
Wishing you all the success, but I know success will find you as it always has.

Hi Mr. Tuna!
We are so saddened that you will no longer be a part of our daily ritual. In the morning, I would listen to you while getting ready for work and then my husband would download your podcast so that we could listen to you while we eat dinner. We have always wanted to meet you in person at one of the home shows, but unfortunately have not had the opportunity. You have brought so much joy and happiness to our lives, we will miss hearing you on the air. Your honest and trustworthy personality is rare and will be sorely missed. Thanks for all the laughs you have given us over the years. We hope that it will not be long before you are back on the air. Take care!
