Where Are You, Charlie?

And why DID you leave K-BIG? And why is it MY.FM? I don't like all these changes! And I definitely miss waking up to YOUR voice in the morning. I've given the new program a shot, but am not happy. Irma's the only familiar voice and is the only reason that I've stuck it out THIS long, but...............

One of your many loyal fans, Charlie.......Please fill me in.

Charlie

I too switched to KOST when you left. Can you tell me what has happened to L. A . Radio? I just went out and bought a Satellite Radio. Goodbye regular, hello commercial free. I will go back when you come back, long time Tuna fan from the 93 KHJ Days and so on.

Dear Charlie-

Just read the latest news of the engagement. Congratulations to all. I recently got married, too...after 10 years with the same wonderful fella. We're no spring chickens and were both were married before, so we took it nice and slow this time.

My HUSBAND and I still miss you greatly. We're wishing you the very best. We'll keep checking back for more news.

Hi,

I am one of your thousands of loyal listeners that is angry at what happened to you. You are a class act. I have seen you in person a couple of times at Pierce College and the Hollywood Bowl and you always entertained the crowd. I actually won and still have the Charlie Tuna Creamer for submitting a joke that you read on the air. I also called you a few times on the air and I remember one time you asked me where I was calling from, I said Jupiter, and you were laughing for about 15 seconds on the air then said at least I was honest about it.

I am sure you are asked this all the time, but do you anticipate getting back on the airwaves in Los Angeles. Is there a chance you could be back on XM or Sirius, on television as a game show host, or maybe broadcast via the internet? You are just too good not to be on the air. In my opinion Clear Channel doesn’t have a clue about what the public wants in radio. I am glad you decided to put up your web site. Even though you might be on the radio, I still can enjoy your “sense of humor”.

Hello Charlie,

I thought you were joking when you said it was your last day on the air but of course it was true. I am glad you got to say good-bye but it's just not the same without you.

I have not listened to the station since and I don't know how they're doing but it can't be good.

I switched to KOST and now we lost Kim, what are those management idiots thinking? They're completely destroying radio.

Please let me know where you end up, I loved listening to you.

I hate to say it but I'll have to just listen to Jack FM, no DJ's, that way I can't be upset if someone leaves.

All the best.

Regarding the list of stuff that drives people crazy on 11/29/07
Received: 11/30/2007 @ 2:11pm PST
From: April Gomez

Hi Charlie,

The list of stuff that drives people crazy did not include:

When your favorite radio station and morning DJ are taken off the air suddenly and replaced with a boring morning show and music that makes you sleepy. And you are left with constantly flipping through stations unable to find a suitable replacement for what was once the only station you'd listen to.

**Just thought a few of us could relate to that one.

Thank you for all the great times at KBIG. I started listening to your show on KBIG after Howard Stern left the airwaves for satellite and from then, until your departure in September this year I was a faithful listener every morning to KBIG. It is a shame and I have emailed MYFM to express my dislike for the new format and morning host. They responded by giving me your website address and the tone of the email made it seem as if I am the only to email them with a complaint about the change. That's business for you, I guess.

Thank you
April

Hi Charlie: I can't believe it. I started listening to KOST after Clear Channel let you go. I can't stand that guy that replaced you.

SOOOOO Guess What! Clear Channel let Kim go yesterday! That is the second stuppidist thing they have done. What's next? Will they let Mark go too?

Charlie you and Kim should get together and start your own morning show. You two would be terrific.

Charlie have a wonderful Christmas.

Good morning Charlie,,after 9/17/07, your last day on the radio, i switched to KOST 103.5, and started listening to the Mark & Kim show, well now, I am sure you've heard, Kim is now gone,,,now what station will i be able to listen to.....Its just so devasting my favorite radio talk show hosts are gone.....Hoping you will be somewhere in the future, so i can listen to your voice...Devastated, GLORIA

(Note to Gloria: Yes, I am aware of what happened to Kim. I found out with a phone call shortly after it happened yesterday morning. I spoke to Kim on the phone yesterday afternoon and she said she was still in shock, but hoped to continue working somewhere else for a couple of more years. Mark, Kim and I all have the same agent, by the way. I wished her the best of luck and explained that it's a pretty tight radio job market out there right now, with more cutbacks expected on L.A. radio stations and the remaining available host slots tied up with people who have long term contracts. My agent said recently he's never seen a crazier time in the business with more layoffs and firings expected nationwide in radio. It's not about popular personalities now, it's about a body count reduction.)

Charlie-I was devastated when I was listening for your good byes. I was just like others hoping it was your April Fool's a few months early! The sad thing is I missed your final good bye and song. I heard it was beautiful. Would it be possible for you to send me the title of the song? Thank you and I will check your updates to see what radio station you move to. Norma (Note to Norma: Listeners still ask about that last song I played. It's one of my favorites "Cycles" by Frank Sinatra. If you listen to the lyrics, it really is my career set to music, in a way. You can take a listen to it on the YouTube audiophile video below.)

Charlie,
While driving to work I turned you on, but, you weren't there, I kept listening (hated the music) and heard someone else - I heard Irma but she wasn't the same, so needless to say I've changed stations to hear the music that you and I both enjoyed in the morning, I came to your website and found that you had "left", I'm sorry that things change, as you say "good things come to those who wait," and I'm sure you will be blessed with another successful radio show, I await to hear what you have in-store for us listeners. You are missed dearly.

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for the memories. I feel lost without you in the mornings, I spend my mornings surfing through all the stations and finding nothing to compare with your humor and star power. I can't understand how K-Big could be so dumb to screw up a great thing.

Please know that you are loved and missed. I wish you all the best, and hope to hear you on the radio or some type of media real soon.

Take care my friend,

Listening to you, it was like you being there, a form of socialization. You are a good talker-and I your listener-two parts needed in a conversation.
take care, until you return to the airways-I will be listening to cd's.

Tuna Christmas?

From: Penny Nay

Hello,
There is a small theater here in Simi Valley that is showing “A Tuna Christmas” does that have anything to do with you??? If so, I want to be sure to go.
Penny

(Note to Penny: No, nothing to do with me. It's a play has been around for quite awhile. It began as a party skit around 30 years ago that evolved into the original "Greater Tuna", a story that is centered in the third smallest town in Texas - "Tuna". Eventually it spun off a second play, "A Tuna Christmas". Both toured nationally and even hit Broadway in 1994 with "A Tuna Christmas" which earned a Best Actor Tony Award nomination for one of the creators, Joe Sears.

But, as I mentioned today on the "Tuna News" link, on Sunday, December 9th, I will be in Southgate for the TV taping that I co-host with Xiomara Galindo, for the annual Southgate Children's Christmas Lane Parade. We tape it that day and it will play back on Christmas Day on Channel 13. I'll give you the airtime on this website when I find out, plus I will be sending an email reminder to all who have written me with the first mass email update on what might be going on with me in the New Year too!)

Charlie,

I feel as if I lost a very dear friend since you went off the radio at KBig!!!

My children and I loved to hear you in the morning and I think KBig made a huge mistake!!

I have listened with an open mind, but do not like the new music at MyFm. The one thing that made KBig unique and wonderful was that they played Disco, 70, 80 and todays music. I have spoke with 3 different people during the week letting them know how much I think the change in music is not good. I have switched to 93.9 Moving radio because they play the music that I enjoy and that keeps me going through the day. MyFm sounds like every other station on the dial and it has lost its fun side and upbeat music. I am sad because I have listened to KBig for years and have gone to 3 Disco concerts and other functions. I feel a bit betrayed that I took music surveys thinking that it would be music added to not taking over the music that I loved to hear.

Charlie I enjoyed you every much and will look forward to hearing you on the radio soon.

Charlie,

COME BACK!!!!!!!!!

Clear Channel clearly made a huge MISTAKE. I have been a listener of yours back in your early KHJ days. I have been a K-Big listener for many years. I tried, and I do not like the new format. I have now switched radio stations and every now and then I will go back to My FM. Charlie, That is not MY FM. The music is terrible, I believe they are catering to the very young and rock crowd, I am definitely not a rock person.

Clear channel, Bring back Charlie and make my commute much more pleasant. I am about to re-set my pre-set buttons on my cars.

I miss you Charlie.

A very unhappy listener.

KBIG 104.3

KBIG is one of the stations I listened to 90% of the time.

I turned on the new station and the music is absolutely terrible to say the least, I can't believe they changed.

I am from England and now live in CA. There is no Loyalty whatsoever. All of the listeners basically got no recognition at all. I hope KBIG goes in the toilet now, they don't deserve to do well and I hope they don't

Remember what comes around goes around.

We will all miss your radio station, try and get a new one and let the new KBIG know their music sucks.

One of your daily listeners.

I started listening to you on the radio when you were at KHJ. Then I lost you on the radio. When I found you again on KBIG it was like coming home. I normally commute on the bus so I didn’t get to listen to you as much as I would have liked but when I did drive into work I could always count on your voice to ease my way in. When I got the email from KBIG about the changes I didn’t realize that you would no longer be there, so I missed your last show. I didn’t like the new format and removed KBIG off the button on my radio.

I was wondering where you went to next and did a search on the internet. Good thing for the internet, and found your website. I’m going to miss you on the LA air waves. You are like a friend over the air. I hope your next venture is something you truly want and like to do. You will truly be missed.

Important response to KBIG

With respects, ClearChannel blew it big time. I'm one of those dyed-in-the-wool Tuna listeners. He and his team are what brought me to KBIG in the 1st place. Now they've made the mistake that a lot of other stations have made:

They seem to think that changing the broadcasting personalities needs to be part of changing the musical format. Not in this case. Having followed Charlie around from station to station, format to format, music type to music type (even Country &* Western -- which I don't even like), I know that he can make any type of music more palatable if it's not your cup of tea, and more enjoyable if it is. While I love Irma Blanco in the morning drive time slot (and miss Lori Ryan -- she gave a sharp, compact but informative traffic report), it was the chemistry between Charlie and Irma that made it special, along with Heather (who you can't retrieve now) and Lori, occasionally, chiming in ... KBIG was what my clock radio was set to, my car radio, and even my computer at work -- the only station in my computer is KBIG.

That's probably going to change. The minute I find where Charlie lands, with respects to Irma, I'm gone.

Hello Charlie,

This is the second email I have sent since "Black Monday". I have unsuccessfully tried to find someone else to listen to in the morning until you find another station that realizes your talent, or Clear Channel wakes up and realizes their mistake. I am saddened to see the direction radio has been going for some time now...to the pre-programmed, automated, insert your local news/traffic here format. Radio management blames the iPod for their dropping ratings, when they should just examine their own decisions. Talk radio has dramatically risen in popularity and even revitalized the dying AM band some years ago. I miss your wit and insight while I'm preparing for the workday. How about this for an idea....Keep the new music format (I actually do like that part) and hire Charlie Tuna back to put a few laughs and interest back into the morning? In the meantime, I'm rediscovering my CD collection. All my best wishes and prayers to the best morning man in history.

Hi Charlie, I hope everything is well with you. I can't even describe to you the thoughts of my friends especially co-workes who listened to you every morning. A couple of them have boycotted 1043 they're protesting, by changing radio stations. As for myself I feel a loss I'm trying but you and Irma were Fantastic together. I miss you and so do my kids. I hope they put you on the radio just to say HI to all the listeners. I look forward to your BLOG. You can bet I'll be on everyday.

Thank you for making making my mornings so enjoyable. Hope you are on the radio soon.

Hi Charlie

It has taken me all this time to finally be able to visit your web page because I knew the tears would not stop. I cannot believe how very much I miss you on the morning show. I guess we do take things for granted and think that the people we care about will always be there. You have been a part of my morning commute to work and a good start to my day, everyday. I enjoyed listening to you as well as the music you played and am shocked that this has happened and that its all over. I feel punished not having you as a part of my day. KBIG has been my favorite station from morning to night, including Boogie Nights. Now nothing is the same, and it feels really sad. I hope to hear your voice again on the radio very soon. Please work on this Charlie, I miss you terribly.
The best of luck to you in everything you do and come back to us soon.

Fondly,
Maria
