Hi Charlie,
It seems so strange that you are not on the radio anymore. I miss you Charlie!!!!! I am still in shock!!!!! I feel like I have lost a friend. You were so comforting in the morning on the way to work. You made my commute easier!!!! It is not the same without you Charlie!!!! I was just blown away when you broadcast your last show!!! I have been listening to you a long time!!!! I was just telling my friends that I listen to you every morning on the way to work.

Thank you so much, Charlie

Radio has Changed

Charlie,

Why I am compelled to email you is really surprising to me. I am usually the very quiet type and tend to stay in the back and listen. Anyways, I was really disappointed to hear you were leaving the morning show. I remember telling my kids, while in the car driving, that you were not going to be on the radio anymore. I couldn’t even remember the name of the new station when they asked. I just feel very lost and confused when it comes to listening to a radio station now. I have been checking your website periodically to find out where you are going because I look forward to listening to you again. Thank you for posting your website and keeping us updated. God bless you.

Hey there Charlie,

Doubt if you remember me (although I bugged you enough when I was a little fella growing up listening to you on TenQ/K.Hits 97). I was that 14 year old Kidd Kelly (Kidd Nordhoff) from Torrance that used to call all the time, and bumped into several times years later at different remotes and on stage at the $20,000 Pyramid TV show.

I just wanted to say that I've got you in prayers big time. I'm sure you will pop up somewhere, as you always do! You are LA Radio. And I wish you nothing but the best.

Just to let you know, I'm back home (actually close to home...in Ventura). I've been all over the place in my career (now using the name Maverick). I was recently doing mornings in Denver...then worked for CBS doing nights before moving to Ventura as the MD/afternoon guy at LIVE 1055 (KFYV).

I've often written in the trades my thanks to MG Kelly, Real Don Steele, and you (as well as others) about your kindness and patience with me as a 14 year old kid calling every 15 minutes trying to get on the radio. I learned from that and put it all to practice everyday on the air and off the air.

In the past 25+ years that I've been radio, I always ask God that I have a 'TenQ Day'. Where I entertain and have fun with the listeners like you guys entertained me...doing what I can do to make every break count and give them a reason to listen and be a part of the show. I want radio to be as fun as it used to be, and so I do what I can.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you Charlie.

Maverick...Brett

Charlie,

I just wanted to say that my mornings in the car are not the same anymore. My radio was set on KBIG, but now I feel no desire to listen to regular radio so instead I am forced to listen to High School musical with my kids all the way to school. LOL We miss you and the gang. Can't wait to hear your voice on the air again. God Bless and Best of luck!

Sincerely, a Big Tuna Fan

Another Station?

From: Olga Armendariz

Dear Charlie,

Many of my friends and I wish to thank you for so many years of pleasure listening.

What we're wondering now is.... What's going to happen with Disco Fever?!!! Disco Fever has done so much for us, going to the yearly concerts has made us feel young and alive again, not to mention closer to each other once again.

Will you be joining another station? We really hope that it will be the same type of music, and that you start up on the concerts again soon!

Farewell, and Good Luck!

Olga Armendariz & friends

Dear Charlie ~

Please add this to your collection of over 3000 emails. I know you'll land on your feet. You always have. I've listened to you for MANY years, on various stations, and have always enjoyed the sound of your voice. You bring something to radio that not many people can and that's a feeling of familiarity. That's why I enjoyed listening to KBIG so much, because of you and the rest of the morning crew. I miss you all very much. Although Irma still comes on periodically, she just doesn't sound the same ~ I feel like I can hear the sadness in her voice. Everything about your show was great, the music mix, the community events, especially THE TUNATHON. That event touched my heart so deeply because Children's Hospital helped my daughter (and our whole family) during a very dark time in her life. Thanks to angels like yourself they can continue doing the work they do. I leave you now with wishes for much success in your brilliant career and I will be checking your site often to see where I can find you next.

Best regards,

Anna De Leon

Dear Charlie, I read about your dismissal at the former KBIG and I was stunned. You are a "Radio Royal" as far as I am concerned. I have been following you around the dial for as long as you have been a L. A Dee Jay Starting on KHJ Boss Radio and on to KRLA. I remember you and Lynn Durling on KRLA mornings, just made me scream with laughter at your sound bytes and commentary. You were housed on the ground floor of the Wiltshire building and there had been a fire on the two top floors. Only you and Lynn were allowed in the building to broadcast. You had "Elvis" at the fire scene reporting." Hey Elvis" How's it going up there?" Then you would play a portion of "Burning Love" "Lord have mercy. It's burning a hole where I lay." If that wasn't priceless enough? You then announced " We are to be visited by the L. A. County Fire Inspector." Then the sound byte came... "I am the God of hell fire and I bring you fire!" Poor Lynn. He nearly keeled over on that one, me too! I also remember you poking fun at a Lucky Store commercial with Stephanie Edwards. She announced " Standing rib roast.. Boston Butt Style" and you commented " Boston butt style? Sounds like another Kennedy scandal." You are so clever and witty with perfect timing. When you left KRLA. It took me awhile to find you on KODJ along with "The Gunner" Machine Gun Kelly. You are a Rock and Roll Dee Jay Legend Charlie . An institution to "Boss Angeles Radio." You will always be my all time favorite Radio Dee Jay Charlie Tuna. Get back on our airwaves soon.

Sincerely,

Kathy Austin, Whittier, CA.

Dear Mr. Charlie Tuna,

I just turned 43 years old (9/7) and a native of Los Angeles. I have been listening to you and a few others of the LA DJ’s since I was a little girl!!! I can still remember the “93-kay-aych-jay”, and the “New 10Q” jingles. When I grew up, ok when I was 12 or 13…I faithfully listened to you and Rick Dees on 102.7 KIIS FM. I moved to Augusta, Georgia from 1990-1994, and imagine my surprise when I heard Rick Dees on the air with Dickie Shannon on WBBQ! Anyways, I guess Rick was in town for the Tournament of the Masters and decided to visit the station which was down the street from my office in N. Augusta, SC…I knew Dickie Shannon so he let me in to see Rick and simply hearing a familiar voice soothed some of my yearnings for Los Angeles. But this is not about Rick Dees…this is about you! KBIG-104 and Charlie Tuna have been a favorite of mine since I moved back to Los Angeles in 1994. Sure, I station surf when there’s a commercial, or when a song that I don’t like comes on, but listening to you in the morning felt like I was having coffee with my friends on the way to work. I have three sons 22, 20, & 16…when my oldest boys were little; they used to ask me if you were the same Charlie Tuna as in the TV commercials for Chicken of the Sea!

Mr. Tuna, you will be greatly missed, your voice is amazing and you are one the last TRUE Los Angeles DJ’s that are worth listening to. I hope whatever deal you are working on with Clear Channel lives up to your expectations. I’m not in favor of the whole monopolizing concept that seems to be prevalent in business these days, but as you say everything happens for a reason!

Best wishes to you in the future and hope to hear you through my speakers again soon!

Charlie,

I hope your doing well. It’s hard to leave a routine that you had for several years. Not to mention the co-workers and friends that you have made. I’m waiting, waiting and waiting.

I am not enjoying my morning commute. I keep pushing buttons hoping to find something to listen to, but can not. Not only do I miss my favorite DJ, but the music on the new KBIG is not upbeat enough. I have followed you through the years since you were on KHJ. I can’t wait until you return to a morning show. I’m so glad that you are going to keep your listener’s informed. I’ll be waiting.

Please advise me.

I was on YouTube today, listening to Richard Harris's MacArthur Park and KHJ popped into my head. I thought to myself, who represented that old 60's AM radio station better, you guessed it, YOU. I once met you about 35 years ago when you appeared at the Grand Opening of a Millers Outpost store in West Covina after your transition from KHJ to the then legendary teen FM station, 102.7 KKDJ. I think even my mom would agree (she's 66 now) that you are truly a legend. Even more than Humble Harve or the Real Don Steele.

During this Holiday season, I thought I'd drop you a line and let you know you're not forgotten. Hope you have a great Holiday Season and man, get back on Morning radio!

Rick

I remember when Robert W Morgan turned morning on KHJ over to you. He left LA for a short time. Yep, you are no kid and I’m not either. I have lived in AZ for 27 years, but I remember boss radio, you, Sam Riddle, The Real Don Steele and Humble Harv. You are a survivor. No one can hold a candle to you. Well maybe Machine Gun Kelly or Bobby Ocean. Ha I was a KBIG listener on the web. Miss ya Charlie. You may remember me, I moved to Bullhead City AZ to get into radio. My nick name in school was Tuna, given to me by the band teacher. Well when I got into radio, I was Larry Tuna. Many people thought I was you. I was never that good. Best of luck, you will be picked up soon. Clear Channel has some 25 year old that think he knows more. HA

Charlie, I’m still lost without you in the mornings. Every morning I would listen for the 6:40 community of the day and would even tell my husband “shhhhhh, they’re gonna say the community of the day” and I knew I only had about 5 more minutes until I had to leave for work, now I never know what time it is in the morning, I have to keep looking at my cell phone. I don’t listen to KBIG anymore at all, I’ve heard it a few times and the music is horrible. I can’t wait until your back on radio somewhere, hopefully it’s soon. I have your webpage on my favorites and look at it all the time. Miss you Charlie, come back soon!!

Hi Charlie,

Second time writing you since you left the airwaves. My question is I was wondering how to find out how the new station is doing ratings wise with the new format? I’m sure that it can’t be doing as well as the original format! I hope the powers that be, come to their senses and realize you are needed back on the radio.

Have a great day!

Charlie,
I've said it before, CC are idiots!! I'd love for all of us loyal listeners to do something to aid your cause. I was recently reading where the 'ousted' country radio listeners (myself included) went through something similar and started a letter writing campaign, contacted all the necessary 'powers that be' and raised enough ruckus and support to get a country radio station back in LA. Apparently the decision makers in that situation severly underestimated listener loyalty in that situation too.

We know you're contractually bound by dates, however we listeners are not. I'm ready to jump in and join any other listener fans to write, contact the 'powers that be' and raise a ruckus to whomever & whatever radio station needs to hear - WE WANT YOU BACK ON THE AIR!

Still missing you,
Lyn M.

Just because I don't e-mail you often, does not mean that I don't miss you and think of you often. Today is a great day for me, but would be better if I heard your friendly voice on my radio.

I trust God will give you a new and exciting opportunity to use your talents in 2008. Be patient and cherish this time as a gift of reflection, more family time, and one of character growth.
