Hi Charlie, I have been listening to your morning show for about 2 years and the minute I heard it I fell in love. I feel so upset that you are no longer there to wake me up but things happen for a reason. I know you will do a great come back that will just be better then ever. Please know that you have one more listener that will follow you to every station you move to. Take care of your self and keep in touch.

Thank You

Charlie -
Each morning I turn on the radio as my daughter and I get ready for our day. Your morning show was one of the few I felt comfortable having my daughter listen to. You have done great things for your community and I hope you find a new radio home soon. Maybe you can convince someone to bring back the fabulous 690 since I miss the oldies too.

Best of luck in your new adventure. Remember today is the first day of the rest of your life.

The first thing I did when I would arrive at work at University of California, Irvine, I would turn on my computer and listen to you on the internet, unfortunately it's just not the same so I have been forced to change my routine..! And needless to say I'm saddened by your forced departure. I will be waiting with anticipation on where the future will take you.. Gloria

Driving to work is becoming more of a drag (43 miles one way) since you’ve been gone. I’m finding myself more prone to road rage at such an early hour. So, whose bright idea was this anyway? I have now started to listen to Rick Dees on Movin93 and Mark and Kim on KOST, and The Fish 95.9. Hope to find you somewhere on the dial sometime soon. Driving to work just isn’t the same. Well, yes it is, because I take the same route but you know what I mean. Us cat people have to stick together. Wishing you the best!!

Dearest Charlie

I just wanted to tell you how much I miss you in the morning, it is like losing an important part of my day. I have listened to you every morning for years and it just seems wrong. The old saying “one door closes and another one opens” is very true, I will continue to check your website to see how you are doing as well as what station will have the pleasure of hiring you. Hang in there.

A long time loyal fan,
Love you,
Lori

Charlie,
I was frightened out of my chair when my brother called me at work blasting," Charlie Tuna's gone!" My response after I caught the chair underneath me, and thinking something worse, "Are you sure? I have the radio on and I hear Irma." I told him I'd investigate.

After listening, I began to Google and found the radio station call name changed. Bummer! My belief system lately is -things change for a reason-and I know you will be okay. Hey-I guess all business' are the same! Only in your business when programs change they should be decent enough to give a person some kind of notice. I will keep looking on your website to see what new ventures life has in store for you...

Charlie,
I just wanted to say thank you for the part that you have played in my life. I want to also thank you for the love that you have shown to Paige and my family. Paige just adored you. Thank you for helping us to keep her memory alive each year during the Tunathon.
I am thankful for your friendship. I do miss hearing you every morning, but I am glad to hear that you are busy. I hope that you are taking time for yourself and your family.
May you have a wonderful holiday season. I do owe you cookies because last year I couldn't get them to you. So, where is your office so that I can bring them?
Love,
Suzanne

CHARLIE, CHARLIE, CHARLIE.....What are we to do without our dear CHARLIE??!!
What an insane thing to do at KBIG. I tried listening to the new format for a few days hoping it would click for me. But how do you bond to disconnected voices? There is no human feel to the station, no one you can welcome into your home, car or office. Feels like a robot station with only computer chips for a heart.
You were the "heart" of KBIG. I've switched to another station, but only until I find my Charlie again. Please come back to us.

1970's radio show "The Unexplainables"
Received: 11/20/2007 @ 12:30pm PST
From: Rob Galley

Hi Charlie,
A question about a 1970's radio show on the armed forces radio called "The Unexplainables". I have exhausted all my efforts through Google and have come up empty. My sister use to tape the radio shows when she was in Belgium and I can remember listening to them with her when she got back to the states. The tapes that she had have since deteriorated and cannot be listened to. We find ourselves often remembering some of the stories and have wondered if they are out there somewhere for purchase. I'm sure that she was not able to tape them all so there are bound to be stories we never got to hear.
Is there any info you could give me as to how to track this down. maybe you could put me in contact with someone who could help me.

Thank you for your time.

Rob Galley
Plant Manager

(NOTE TO ROB: To answer your question, I did an occasional feature on my show which was nothing more than a produced mysterious music bed and some production drop-ins that highlighted weird stories in the current news of the day. It was nothing more than a collection of stories we would find and then I would read them with the surrounding production as part of my show.

Unfortunately like so much radio material back then, I would just read them and toss them after the show. The Armed Forces Network shows were on big vinyl discs, and I never thought to ask for copies as some of the guys did. Little did I realize that I would wind up doing 6000 shows over a 25 year span!

By the way, I called the feature “The Unbelievable”.....I phased it out of my regular radio show around the year 2000. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.)

We went on vacation for 8 weeks and when we returned, I just thought maybe you were on vacation and that is why I have waited this long to try to find out where you are. Please keep me posted when you find your new station. We really miss you. I have now switched to K-EARTH since you left. The new format doesn't really appeal that much to me or my husband. I lasted as long as I did because you were such a joy and fun to listen to in the morning. You are great and I am sure will have no problem finding a better station. Can't wait to have you back. Betty

I have been listening to you since the days when my older brother used to carry the portable radio around listening to what are now the "Oldies." That was during the KHJ days. Thereafter, sometimes, it would take me a while to find you, but I always did.

I sincerely tried listening to the station now, but it was torture. My morning drive is 30 miles one way and you always made it more fun rather than hectic or stressful.

NOW IT'S STRESSFUL AGAIN!

On a serious note, KBIG made a HUGE mistake. Please keep my home e-mail address and forward me your info as soon as you have definite plans as to where we will be able to hear you again.

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND AM LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING YOU SOON.

Dearest Charlie,
I was in shock when I realized your were no longer on the air. I made it a point to tune into your show every morning and listen to you on my daily crawl to work. You made the drive a little more tolerable. Your voice to me was like an old friend. I don't like the new format on the station and you can tell something is definitely missing.....you! I have no idea about the ins and outs of the radio business, but I hope and pray that you find a new station so that I can tune back in. You are in my prayers!!!

Hang in there and God Bless!

Dear Charlie,

I've become accustomed every morning listening to you. It's like having coffee in the morning. I've even got my husband to listen to your show. Now that you are not there, its like we're missing something that day. It is very sad that you are not coming thru our radio anymore.

We wish you the best of luck getting back on the radio very soon. We miss you.

Hi Charlie,

I've been a faithful listener to KBIG over the last 8 years and you
guys feel like part of my family! I think you and all the rest of the
gang have done an outstanding job and I can't believe they would change
such a great station.

I know you've said to give the format change a chance, but I just can't
imagine anything different! I liked the mix of music (especially the
70's stuff - but I'm dating myself). I was home in Florida for the
first part of the year, and KBIG was the thing about LA I missed the
most! I am heartbroken...I can't bring myself to listen to it any more right now.

Kathy

I thought it was an early morning dream that you said it was your last show but now after not hearing you in the morning I am letting you know that you were the reason I kept my morning radio tuned in to K-big. Thank you for being there for the past 7 years. I look forward to listening to you again. Sincerely, Anna-Marie Sasaki

We listen to morning radio to hear personalities like Charlie Tuna talk to us about Britney Spears, OJ Simpson, the weather, George W. and other amusing things that happened since the last time we tuned in. It is so totally weird not having your input in the morning while I get ready for work. I am sure all of your listeners feel that way.

You said it takes a long time for radio hiring changes to occur and, if we are patient, we will once again hear you on the radio. Well, I certainly hope it is sooner rather than later. Your wit and sincerity are very much missed.

Hope to hear your voice soon,

Debbie

Your listeners are waiting for you!

Hi Charlie!

Unfortunately I missed your last show. I was ill over the weekend and called out sick. Since I knew that I was not working Monday, I did not set my alarm. Needless to say when I woke up to "MyFM" on Tuesday morning I was shocked. I thought that I had somehow knocked the setting on my radio. Believe me, I did not like what I was hearing. I always knew how much time I could snooze by what part of the show was on... alive at five meant I could lay there 5 more minutes.... when chisme (sorry if I spelled it wrong) came on it meant that I was late and had to get my behind moving faster.

To be truthful with you there were several occasions when I did not agree with the opinions that you voiced on the radio. One of them being the daylight savings time change in spring.

At any rate, I miss your show . . . I miss you being on the air with Irma and I hope that you find a new home on Los Angeles radio soon. For what it's worth I have called the station and let them know that I did not like the new format. I'm just a small fish in the big LA radio listening ocean but maybe one voice added with others would make a difference.

Good luck to you Charlie. I hope you land on your feet and come back bigger and better than ever! Maybe you could even do a streaming show on your website.

Anyway Charlie, I've taken up enough of your time. I will just leave you with this last final thought: Your listeners are waiting for you Charlie.... chop chop! Let's move it! :-)

Sincerely,

John Walter

Hi Charlie,

I've just been reading some of the emails on your website, and I wanted to let you know that I miss you, too. Morning radio just isn't the same without you. You were the first DJ I listened to when I moved to California in 1981, and I was so pleased the first time I heard you on KBIG and was even happier when you became the morning DJ. What were they thinking????!!!!!!! I really miss listening to you in the morning and can't find anyone that I really like on the air now - they just don't compare to you!

I'll look forward to getting an email from you letting me know when I can listen to you on the radio again.

Thanks for the many years of memories.

Take care, and God Bless You.

Marsha

I have listened to you since first moving to southern california in 1971. To say that I was shocked the morning I turned on the radio and KBig had disappeared is an understandment.

I hope you have found another station to work in. I live in Orange County and read the paper each weekend that has the section that talks about goings on on the radio and I haven't seen your name mentioned.

Did you by chance go home to Nebraska?

Hope to hear from you soon. My best to you and yours.

Hi Charlie:

Well waking up without you, I have searched for another station that would offer intelligent conversation, good humor and feeling. So far I've found stupidity, and vulgarity. It's quite obvious that the 'people who call the shots' did not realize the great programing they had.

Please email me when you are 'on air' again.

Hi Charlie,

I just want to tell you personally how very sorry Kelli and I, along with the rest of the staff, were to discover that you were no longer going to be on K-BIG in the morning.

I have been reading your website, the LA Times and other articles and it really provides insight into how quickly things happen in LA radio. Regardless, I just wanted to let you know that we remain among your biggest fans. We loved how you represented our Foundation during A Season of Wishes, were all pumped to work with you again, and we are still looking forward to finding a way to work with you more in one capacity or another as soon as things are settled.

In the meantime, please don't hesitate to let us know if there is a way we can be of assistance to you moving forward.

Warmest wishes,
