Happy Holidays

Hello Charlie,
Nice of you to send out an update to your fans.
First of all I want to say that I hardly listen to the station anymore; the new format is not good and now it is like any other radio station. BIG MISTAKE on their part!
What will happen with the Children's Hospital drive you used to do? I am hoping in some way you will still host something to help them out. I was a listener that signed up for the monthly donation.
Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Look forward to hearing you back on the air very soon.

So great to hear from you, it certainly is appreciated. Listening to the radio is not the same without you and I find myself just not turning it on very much. I hope you will return to the local airways very soon. My best this holiday season to your family as well. Radio is certainly a strange business. I find myself wondering about loyalty on your part to a company. Thank you again miss you alot, Norma from Culver City

Hey Charlie,
What great news to hear on Christmas Eve....... so glad you're getting closer to being back on live radio in LA real soon. I even enjoyed your show with all that music repetition on that last station. So glad to get an update on your future plans. Was never sure you actually received any email from me in recent years.
I was the guy from Canada you included in your Frankie Valli/4 Seasons' get to gather in March of 67 at WMEX. That meant so much to me as Frankie has been my favourite all time singer since 62. And I was so impressionable at the time hoping to become a radio dj myself. Your kindness and professionalism on and off the air will not be forgotten. I recall those double shifts you were doing in Boston back then. And the last I heard just a few months ago, you are still a consummate pro and one class act. Can't wait to hear you again soon, and maybe steal one or two of your clever record intros. All the best over the holidays and have a fantastic New Year. Take care Charlie.

Back to L.A.

Merry Christmas Charlie Tuna, My sentiments exactly about you going back to L.A.
Here's my news.....I'm going back to the Motor City.....Afternoon drive with the CBS outlet....WOMC....
No more 3:20am's for this bear.....First day-Feb 1st....They are looking for a midday superstar... But L.A. is a lot warmer and you're a hero in that city...
After 11 years here at the Jones Radio Network, it was just a little hard to say goodbye, but Detroit has 20 years of my life on those streets so it's like going home. Can't wait to play in afternoon traffic...
God bless you and your family, Have a great 08...
In His grace,

Lost Identity
Received: 12/24/2007 @ 12:01am PST
From: Rich & Claudia Mitsuda
Charlie,
I can tell you that since you've been gone 104.3 has lost its identity. They've also lost me as a listener because their am show isn't good. God bless Irma for being there, but the show lacks substance. I miss hearing your voice in the mornings and am looking forward to your return. You can tell your future employer that a lot of people are anxiously waiting to hear the Charlie Tuna show in the mornings, again.
We miss you, Charlie! I hope you and your family have a great holiday season.
Cheers,
Rich

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Before I begin my Christmas vacation, I MUST pause and wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I had but one wish on my list for Santa this year.PLEASE BRING BACK MY CHARLIE TUNA TO THE RADIO QUICKLY!!!
I can barely manage to stay awake on the morning drives without your quick wit and funny stories. The non-stop Christmas tunes on COAST are killing me and I LOVE Christmas music! My 1990 Jeep is not equipped with "state of the art" music systems, so I REALLY MISS YOU!!!
May 2008 be the beginning of a fantastic and exciting new chapter in your incredible book of life!
Lots of love,

Hello

Hello Charlie,
I can't believe that it's been three months since you were on the air. Even more, I can't believe that Clear Channel has not chosen to renew your contract or put you back on the air. I have listened to 104.3 since you left, but it is not the same station and I find myself changing the channel more and more. Especially in the Morning. I'm glad that Irma is still on air. but even she is not the same since Valentine was hired on. I'm sure he is a great DJ, but in my opinion, he doesn't do anything for the morning show and I'm just not enjoying listening to 104.3 as much as I used to... even though I like the change in music.
I will continue to listen for you at a new station and hope that you will be back on the air soon. In the meantime. I wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Take care!
Sincerely,
Sue Ashby

Last Show!

Charlie!
You have no idea how much your radio show has meant to me. I wanted to tell you (in my first email) that I was listening to you when I first started going to Cypress College (back in 2001-ish) as a photography major. Since then, I have always tuned into your show whenever I would hop in the car at 7am to go to Cal State San Bernardino (I'm now working on my Art History degree). So, I've always have been accustomed to listening to your voice (and that of Irma Blanco) when I would go to school - that would really set the tone for my school day; your voice on the show = fantastic art projects and a fantastic day, not hearing your voice on the show, no good projects that I was proud of (or a really off day). The only good thing about getting to hear your voice is if I play it in my head.... that way, I have good days all around.
I can't thank you enough for being on the radio for so many years, especially when I was relying on hearing you during some of the rough times in my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being part of my family.
God bless you!

Another station....I'll tune in!

Hi Charlie!!
I am sooo disappointed and upset. (As I am sure dozen of your fans are!) I have listened to your morning show on KBIG for years now and enjoyed every minute of on my way to work each morning. I LOVE you and all your staff. And I've participated in some activities such as the Tunathon. I was shocked to hear the station had changed its format and most of all, had left you out of it! Unless I missed some very important news, I didn't even see it coming. Was there some announcement made that I missed???
I still can't believe that you're not with me on my drive to work every morning and I am writing ClearChannel to tell them how upset I am.
If you are on another station, I'll tune in ... Count on it!
Big hugs to you! (From a loyal fan)

You're Missed

I am a huge Charlie Tuna fan. In defense of your sudden dismissal, I changed stations. My best friend, Sarah Kelly, is a 2 time Grammy nominated artist with no air play. I get the business and quick changes, but what a shame to keep the best behind closed doors. Your banter, interests and personality are greatly missed.

Hi Charlie
I was fortunate enough to hear your last show but was just stunned to hear the news. You are missed by so many fans as you already know. KBIG is not the first station that I knew you from but I was thrilled to hear you when you first came on. I never understood why a personality as great as you had to take second chair but finally my dream came true and it was really the Charlie Tuna show. You brought so much laughter to our mornings that is absolutely gone now. Not only that but with all the new personalities, I have found it just not worth the time to listen any more. I anxiously await that voice announcing that Charlie Tuna is back, somewhere.
Take care and God bless and watch over you. Tell your mother to get St. Joseph busy again.
You’re loved, missed and not forgotten.
Eileen

I was SHOCKED!
Received: 12/20/2007 @ 12:40pm PST
From: Ron MacAlmon
Perhaps a little late, but I had been pretty ill for a while and unable to listen to your show. When I turned the radio on--I was shocked at the new "MyFM" reference and the absence of Charlie Tuna!
I will never meet you face to face, but please accept my sincere statement that listening to you on KBIG in the morning during my 2 hour commute to work was something I truly enjoyed.
Hopefully the Clear Channel management actually WILL discuss new opportunities with you --- something bigger, better, and that you really enjoy. You deserve that for positively affecting so many people with your morning show. I hope they realize that.
P.S. And that new guy Valentine -- nope....the new format just isn't very good -- I'd rather switch to the country music station!

SORRY CHARLIE!

From: Raymond L Guindon
Hi Charlie,
I'm sure you've heard this thousands of times by now, but simply add my name to the long list of listeners who have missed you on the air. But unlike the vast majority of your fans of today, I go way back to your Boss Radio days when you were the afternoon DJ on KHJ in the late '60's, before you even had a morning show! That makes me a loyal listener of yours for about 40 years now, as hard as that may be to believe. Back then, I believe Robert W. had the morning show (I could be wrong about the timing of that) and the Real Don Steele had the late afternoon show after you. Since then, I've managed to follow you around the dial as much as possible, sometimes even by accident! I specifically remember (in no particular order) KIIS, KHTZ/KBST 97.1, KODJ with the Breakfast Bunch (before it became the Arrow), KMPC (which I believe at the time was all sports talk), KLAC (even though I was not a fan of the music, just you!), and eventually KBIG. I even managed to listen to you some on the Orange County country music station you were on for a while at 94.3, although I can't remember what it was called, but my signal was weak so you faded in and out, but at least I tried!
Over the years/decades, I have come to rely on you for almost daily entertainment to start the day, with my fondest memories of when you would tell your "morning wake up stories". My favorites of those were the "Buccaneers" story around Halloween, the pirate story with the brown pants, how the angel got to be on top of the Christmas tree, and countless others that have unfortunately escaped me. I would always sit in my car after arriving at work at 7:45 so I would have a chuckle to start my day before joining the pressure cooker! Any chance of reviving those at your next stop?
I also remember things like your Trivial Pursuit games, and even had the pleasure of meeting you and briefly speaking with you once at some camera or photo shop in Torrance on PCH in the mid '80's where you played it with customers. I've stolen, rather "borrowed", one of your jokes from a long time ago that you told on KHJ right after Father's Day one year. You said leading into a song that your son had given you a hand made card that said "To a real Dad". "Of course there were a few spelling errors, like Dad, D-U-D!" I wonder now if that's the same son who designed your website. If so, he's come a long ways! I hope I will one day be as proud of my 2 girls as I know you are of all 4 of your kids!
I think of you as the L.A. music radio equivalent of Chick Hearn, Vin Scully, and Dick Enberg. They are icons of their teams and sports, and you are an icon of L.A. radio. Are you still the honorary mayor of Tarzana? I even know your real name (first name the same as my favorite subject in grade school, last name the same as a former Dodger catcher....am I right?).
As far as your next gig goes, I always thought you would be a natural on KRTH, since it's still kind of an oldies station. I remember you had an on air audition with them before you got the KBIG gig, but why would you even need an "audition"?
You don't need for me to wish you good luck, because you always end up with another show before too long, and I know it will happen again soon. Thanks to your website, it will be much easier to find you next time. My family and I plan on relocating out of state after I retire from my job in a few years, and the things I will miss most of all about L.A. will be my Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, UCLA football and basketball, and Charlie Tuna in the morning. I'll still be able to follow my teams one way or another, but there will be no replacing you!
Thanks for all the myriad of memories!
Another faithful listener,
Ray

You are missed!
Received: 12/20/2007 @ 10:02am PST
From: Leslie Perea-Alarcon
Hi Charlie -
Two years ago, I got married and moved from Burbank to Cerritos while keeping my job in Burbank. By doing this, I entered the World of Commuters and was introduced to your show as I drove to work every morning. I wanted you know that I really enjoyed your lighthearted, good-natured and fun show. I like to think of myself as politically aware and a concerned citizen in this country, but so many disc jockeys ram their opinions and unwanted soap-box diatribes at their listeners. I always knew that tuning in to your show would be a guarantee of innocuous fun and, of course, good music!
You are missed! And I worry about Lori and the rest of the crew. I hope this change will lead all of you to brighter endeavors. Please know that the show I listened to for the past two years was made of gold. It was lovely and you all seemed to like each other so much. You had a great run, and I'm sure you will appear again soon on the airwaves.
Be well!
Leslie
