Unbelievable

Charlie,
I am sure that I am one of many, many, many fans that will tell you that I have been a listener of yours for a very long time. I remember many summers ago when myself and my 4 older brothers passed the time away by listening to you and the other boss jocks from 93 KHJ. We hope we get to hear you again soon on the radio
Until then God Bless you and keep rockin'

Your departure from KBIG
Received: 12/15/2007 @ 7:30pm PST
From: Barbara Cutler
Charlie: My husband and I have really enjoyed listening to you on KBIG. We like the mix of new and old music. We have now tuned into 93.9 with Rick Dees but much prefer you. We hope you will get started with a new program soon. Please tell the current management of 104.3 that we do not care for the current program. They probably don't care what we think, but maybe if enough people complain they will change things. Best of luck to you and whatever you decide to do.

I'm still in shock

When I found out that KBIG as I knew it no longer existed and it called itself MY FM, I thought "but surely Charlie tuna is still on the air..".. I live in San Diego but have kept listening to Kbig since I moved here in '98. I grew up listening to KHJ AM and then 10Q and then kIIS FM and anyway.. You've always been a part of my radio world. (I actually couldn't remember if you were part of KHJ because I thought SURELY you were not that old haha! I was born in 61 by the way so that is why I remember the old KHJ - it was the only station I listend to in grade school, until we finally discovered FM radio - by then, most of the am dial went Hispanic.....)
Anyway, I hope you pop up somewhere else in LA radio. I can only pick up two radio stations from LA in my car - KBig and 1070 am (knx) so not sure what I'll do if you do not return to KBIG.
By the way, I do not like this new format.

Hang In There

From: Cindy Seielstad
Good afternoon Charlie,
I have read your website everyday, and am so glad to hear of all the e-mails that you have, and continue to receive on a daily basis....we all knew that you would get thousands because YOU are a wonderful person.
Charlie, I have listened to My FM to give it a chance, but I have to be honest with you.....I like the music, but it's boring. Agreed, some stations have too much talk and not enough music sets, but I though K Big had the perfect equation of both. It just isn't the same without the morning crew each day.
One more thing, when something gets under my skin and makes me upset, for whatever reason, I am known for my e-mail letters that I send to corporate headquarters of different companies. Well, Clear Channel Communictions is not an exception. I decided to send off an e-mail, just for my satisfaction mainly, and let them know what I thought...seems I found the address of the VP for radio marketing so I sent her my e-mail. Told them I thought that they had made a big mistake, etc. Made me feel better anyway....
Have a wonderful weekend, and hang in there Tuna!!!!!

Can't believe you are not on the air!
Received: 12/15/2007 @ 7:37am PST
From: Lynne Cope
Hi Charlie
I went away on vacation and came back to find you gone? I can't believe it. I am very disappointed with the new show. I loved listening to you in the morning on my way to work, you really started my day off right. If you still have your office at the station you should pass this along. The new show is boring. I do not like all the telephone calls from listeners - I want to listen to music and a personable radio host - not other peoples quirks or commercials. I think I hear about two or maybe four songs in the 30 minute commute time and will not be tuning the station on at work. I hope you find an opportunity in the near future that fulfills your wants and needs. You really deserve the best and I loved listening to your show.

I'm confused
Received: 12/14/2007 @ 5:11pm PST
From: Donna Lim
Hi Charlie,
Been listening to you since the KHJ days... Was so glad you were on KBIG.
I'm a little confused. I remember your last show and you saying the management had plans for you and that you were to still keep your office and your parking permit.... But, today, I looked on your charlie tuna website and it mentions this kind of thing happening before when you were fired.
Were you fired? What happened? What is the big picture of why this is all happening?
The radio station is not the same since you left. The new djs don't have the same kind of caring personality. They sound like the "KIIS" guys - very impersonal. I look forward to hearing about your new endeavors. Miss you lots!
-donna
(NOTE TO DONNA: Technically, no I wasn't fired.....yet. I'm still under contract to Clear Channel. There has been some talk about doing some things on a national basis, but nothing local. My contract ends on December 31st. Indications are that it will not be renewed, so then we'll see what happens. I have everyone's name in an address book who has emailed me, and I will be sending out a mass update email shortly on what's coming up with me so far.)

Hello MR. Charlie
WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED? I can not believe they took you off the air and put that fool Valentine on. I don't like MYFM radio, the music sucks, to be honest I looked forward to my mornings with you. Boy even the Traffic lady is gone, now they got Irma doing traffic. Well I had to vent and let you know that my mornings are no longer what they used to be going to work, I now went back to listening to KROQ and during the day when I go home, the Moving station because they are kinda like KBIG, but you are missed and I wish you all the best and I gave MYFM my 2 cents.. Best of luck …
Sincerely,
Eva del Carpio

Numerologist

Hi Charlie!
We miss you! We no longer listen to KBIG since you’re not there in the mornings.
I remember you had a numerologist on the air. What was her name and her website?
I remember her saying that you need to write down the #8 on a piece of paper and put it in your wallet, but now I can't remember why. My husband switched to a new wallet & removed his #8. I told him he needed to put it back in, but he's questioning why.
Thanks in advance!
Loretta Herrin
(NOTE TO LORETTA: Thank you so much for your email and kind words. I don’t recall having a numerologist on the show, and would certainly remember that #8 story if I did. But I did go online and found a link to a numerologist and book with why that #8 is so important. Just click on this link for all the info. http://www.epinions.com/content_291594997380))

I turned on the radio and heard another voice and like many others thought you were on vacation! I then went on your website to learn you are no longer with KBIG. BIG, BIG mistake on their part. You were the reason I listened to their station in the mornings. You are funny and brought so much life to the morning show and you will be missed! I have had to find another morning show to listen to in the car and at work.
Good Luck,

Worked with you a long time ago

Hi Charlie --
I certainly don't expect you to remember, but I produced a few interviews with you. We worked for the airlines and their various in-flight entertainment projects. We hired you to interview Peter, Paul and Mary at the Hollywood Bowl...and Gino Vannelli at the Sunset Gower studios...and the most memorable one was Dolly Parton. I believe it was in a guest house next to Sandy Gallin's mansion in the Hollywood Hills -- a hot summer day and the butler came out and served us all fresh-squeezed lemonade. And then Dolly came and sat on the sofa and you interviewed her for an hour or so. I remember you even told her a "Dolly Parton joke." What a great day!
Anyway, when in LA, I always try to find you on the dial. I've been a fan forever. I hope your next gig is your best yet.

Hello....
Still in denial that you are not on KBIG in the morning.... I am one of those people that have been listening to you since the 70's on TenQ. I think my friend won tickets off that station too... anyway... I just felt compelled to write a quick note to you. I got your autographed photo at the Toyota Dealership in Anaheim last year when you giving the cars away. I still have your picture up at my cubicle .. Along with a picture of Mark Kriski, Rod Stewart and John Waite.. LOL.
Just wanted to say I am a loyal listener... and I enjoy your website. Your kids sound great. I have a 14 yr old girl.. and she is pretty darn fabulous.
Have a great rest of the week!

I hope that everything goes well and that I'll be able to hear your voice again.

Please come home, I miss the way you handle the little ones, and all of us that sit on the 405 in the morning.
Please continue to do you’re hard work with the many charities you work with IE: Children’s Hospital, Breast Cancer Awareness and the many other causes you’re involved with.

Where did you go? Tuned in to "Valentine In The Morning" and almost vomited and "God Bless you if you work the morning shift and you are on your way home." I wish there was somewhere to complain about getting rid of your morning show. "Clear Channel" and the Christian Right have one by one destroyed any radio worth listening to on the radio. I hope if flops. I miss you and Irma in the morning and now have absolutely NO reason to turn on the radio during my commute. I guess it is back to CDs. I would like to know if you are moving to another channel and if you will still host the Revlon Run Walk for Breast Cancer.
Sincerely,

Dear Charlie Tuna,
I was really sad and devastated that you were let go on K-big. What were they thinking! They made a huge mistake letting a great talent like you go. My morning drive to work was always a pleasure listening to you, and now it's gone. The new K-big sounds too
depressing to listen to now. If you ask me, it sounds too much like their sister station KYSR (Star 98.7) I hope you'll be back on the air soon. I really miss your show and your cheerful personality. I have listened to you since your days at KHJ and have followed you
everywhere you went. I will keep checking your web-page for further news. And when you're back on the air, I will be there! Take care!
yours,

Hi, Charlie!
Wow! I was so surprised to hear from you and I'm particularly pleased that so many fans have emailed you about your abrupt departure from the air waves. I bet that's kept you more occupied than your radio gig. You didn't say so, but please include the email I sent you in your "Talkback" section of your web site. And please! Please! Please! Let me know ASAP when you're back on the air again. I woke up to my alarm clock set to KBIG every morning and continued to listen to you on my way to work for more than six years. I can't begin to tell you how boring and dreary the mornings have been the last week. To be fair, I tried to listen to KBIG, and I'm sure that guy "Valentine" is a nice guy, but it just wasn't the same. Can you suggest a radio station that plays similar selections as you until you come back on the air? And what's with all the harsh rock and roll on the new KBIG? I like rock and roll in its place, but not first thing in the morning and sometimes not even on the way home. I like music I can sing along to. Guess I'm just weird. Anyway, nice hearing from you and am praying I hear you on the airwaves again soon! Best of luck!

I just had to tell you how disappointed I was to find out they changed the radio station. What a shame and I hope Clear Channel knows they've lost many faithful listeners with this decision!

I’m still not used to not have you in the air. When are you coming back?
This will be the first Christmas in many years that I don’t listen to you. In my name and my whole family I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and that the New Year fulfills your dreams and grants us the opportunity to listen your morning show again.
Merry Christmas

Happy New Year!!!

Re: Question / your answer settled it.
Received: 12/10/2007 @ 11:05am PST
From: Kent Duryea
Hello again, Charlie... and thank you for the nod. I think you just gave me my fifteen minutes of BEING with fame.
I've told Michael Hagerty that "he wins" and also passed along your best regards. As with myself he's honored to have been blessed by your thoughtfulness. The question of you being at KINT in El Paso was figured out as being something syndicated, for you mention yourself as being from Continental Radio on an aircheck a friend of mine has of you.
I assumed you and Michael knew each other well. He tells me, though, that he's only met you once-- back on your first day at KKDJ in 1973. As a 17 year-old fan some 270 miles away he phoned you. After telling you he was a fellow DJ and program director just starting out you spent half an hour with him answering questions and giving advice. He agreed with my comments of you today as being a remarkable personality with a great deal of thoughtfulness back then too. What a consistently good character you possess, Charlie. You must have had a great mom and dad team who raised you well. No wonder you have so many fans who care. In this day and age being nice to others matters more than ever. Being the cynical type that comes rather hard for me. But after hearing from you yesterday and visiting your website I think you have proselytized me into behaving a tad more friendly to strangers for a while to come.
Charlie, if you ever tire of talking and are looking for job stability, then consider bailing from the ocean shores of California and mosey on into San Antonio, Texas. We have an oldies station called KONO and all the jocks do there is give weather numbers and read off cards between songs. They actually get paid for doing something simple as that. It requires absolutely no "talent" whatsoever. Go figure. They ought to go strictly with automation if they have nothing more to offer. Where there is room for someone like you, Charlie, is the morning drive. That's where the talent is allowed to fly high and take the ratings with him. I won't comment on our current morning goofball (oops, think I just did. sorry) but, you have THE REAL TALENT we all want to listen to. Best part? You can't get fired. My god, Charlie, the same jocks have been manning the mics at KONO for over a decade now. Give the management credit over there...they've got a heart. They love their people. Think about it, Charlie. Hopefully you'll keep an eye out for a KONO opening for the morning drive.
Ahhh, who am I kidding? If I could I'd live in sunny California doing radio and not ever leave. Forget it.
Never change and stay forever, Charlie. You're deeply appreciated and an unforgettable influence.
Best,
Kent (as in Duryea)
