RE: we want you back
Received: 12/05/2007 @ 4:18pm PST
From: Lyn Macomber
Charlie,
I'm very serious about a letter writing/email campaign from all the listeners to get you back on the air. If anyone else is game - let's do it.
I can be reached at heavenlyphoenix1028@gmail.com to get this started. You've been there for us for so many years, now it's our turn.
I'll understand if you can't put this on your site, but I'm ready to rumble and put my money where my mouth is.
aloha/namaste'
Lyn M.
(NOTE TO LYN AND YOU LISTENERS: I really appreciate your support and being out there for me, but my contract with Clear Channel runs till the end of this month. They haven't indicated any new plans for me to this point, but I can't do anything till the new year arrives. So please be patient and we'll see what happens. I promise, all of you who have emailed me, are in my address book ready to be sent an email as soon as I have something new to announce. Thank you again.)

KOST
Received: 12/05/2007 @ 11:36am PST
From: Maureen Riggs
Hi Charlie. Miss you during this season.
Once you were no longer helping to wake me up every morning at 5:00 am, I changed to KOST 103 as I had years ago listened to that station. It appears that the same thing is happening there that happened to KBIG. They took Kim off the morning show and Mark is doing it alone this week. They are doing their Christmas music but it will be interesting to see/hear what they do next year once the holiday season has passed. Just for curiosity sake, I turn to 104 and cannot believe the music I am hearing……I turn the channel before the song is over.
Hope you are well. Please keep me posted on your endeavors and I hope someday Clear Channel gets a clue they did not make good choices in 2007.
Have a happy holiday. Miss you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR
Received: 12/05/2007 @ 8:04am PST
From: Terry Adams
Hi Charlie,
I just wanted to take the time to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year. I know 2008 will be great for you.
I know you will turn up somewhere soon, I hope so anyway. Your show was the best AM radio show period. That fact is becoming much clearer now.
A while back I mentioned to you that I had started listening to Mark & Kim (the 2nd best radio show) but I wondered how long they would last since they were also 'Clear Channel' owned. Well now we know. That was pretty shocking the way it went down. That is no way to treat a 22 year employee.
It is very disapointing to see what is happening to radio these days. I can only hope that somehow Clear Channel's profits are affected by their changes.
Take Care

Just some thoughts
Received: 12/04/2007 @ 4:32pm PST
From: Don Manigold
Hi Charlie,
You have been great about responding to my emails in the past and I have enjoyed your response, but please don't feel obligated to respond to this unless you want to. This is a response prompted by your closing remarks Tuesday.
I have listened to radio since about the time I started to walk and could get to the radio. That was well over 50 years ago and I have seen radio change dramatically over the years. I am sorry to say most changes have not been for the better. This trend recently to eliminate the DJs is one of the worst I have seen. FM radio listeners appear to be on the decline and I guess reducing personnel/costs is the way management feels they need to respond. I feel they are causing more of the problem than they are solving. They blame iPods, and the like for their loss, and with a younger generation they may some point, but the iPod does not provide the personal contact and timely information that a DJ or host can. AM radio has gained ground in recent years and I believe that is because of the people speaking on the air...it sure isn't about the music quality! If it was just about the music I would have dropped KBIG years ago because they tend to play music I don't relate too all that well, and they repeat songs way too often. They also switched to MP3 type quality and that bothered me. If I just wanted the music I would have gone to an iPod, CD player, Cassette, or even an LP with music I preferred. Your voice and personality every morning is why I stayed a listener....period. I own a business where we sell high performance audio and video and when I want to listen to music, I do so at a very high performance level because I enjoy it more that way. I also don't get watching movies on a 3 inch screen...I prefer a big screen where I can actually enjoy the movie! In the morning while I'm getting ready and during my drive I like to hear a human being. Sound quality and to an extent music selection is not primary for me. FM radio quality has dropped to the point we can not sell high performance FM tuners as we could years ago because the source music quality is so poor. There are only a very few stations broadcasting in "16 bit" quality and even they are compressed and equalized to death. Radio offers less now than in the past and I think people are responding to that...much the same as they have to CDs. Maybe HD Radio or XM will help...I just don't know if either will gain enough popularity or not. So many other entertainment options exist now. Removing the human contact will only hasten the decline in radio as far as I can see. Is the decline in advertising money the reason they are eliminating radio personalities or is the release of radio personalities adding to the decline in advertising dollars? I hope you find a home soon and that it is on the air in LA with a station that appreciates your value, but please do what is right for you first. Have a Merry Christmas Charlie!

Dear Charlie:
Sorry to hear about your situation at KBIG. I'm likely one of your oldest listeners. I first heard you on KOMA where you were "tuned to the Tuna". This must have been 1966. That was the year that I started in radio. Today I am the owner of TV Business Confidential and WMOM Radio. My associate with TV Business Confidential is Jack Daniels--WAKY, KRUX, Stockton and Las Vegas stations.
You can find our station on the web at www.wmom.fm . My daughter is program director and midday jock.
You and Jack Armstrong were great influences. It's very hard to believe that so many of my influences are out the business or deceased.

Hi Charlie
I have missed u every morning, since u left. I got introduced to u 7 years ago and I have been listening to your show every day, I miss your stories and your candor, the light family atmosphere and your kindness. It was a very poor decision in dismantling the show, in my opinion, young people like my son listen to their ipods and CDs, seldom do they listen to the radio, so your show was for the rest of us, driving every morning to work and relating to your stories. Let me know where u go and I will be right there, Laura

So, Charlie, how long do you think it's going to take MYFM to realize "Duhhh, what were we thinking?" So far I'm not impressed, not that I've been listening, AM talk radio is looking better than it ever has in the AM. Small problem for me though. I'm a mail carrier, the more and louder I sing, the faster I get my route up, so I can hit the streets. The same goes for my working neighbors. (something about my singing makes them want to flee the office ASAP)
I guess this happens in your business, but I think it stinks! I miss your voice. I"ll bet you've heard that a few times, only because it's true. I need to know where you are, and when I can listen. Please, please put me on your email list A very special opportunity is out there with your name on it. I'm looking forward to hearing you on the air waves soon.
God Bless You, your kids and your four legged adopted kids!

Lookin forward to the new "Good Morning"
Received: 12/04/2007 @ 12:05pm PST
From: Sharon Brown
Charlie,
I met a new person 7 years ago. This person was with me every morning while I got ready and drove to work Monday through Friday. Now I am not a morning person, but I started looking forward to the morning to see what was being talked about next and hearing the humor. I was sad when I arrived at work, because I had to turn off the radio and start my day.
As every one has told you we were surprised, sad and mad on that Monday the 17th, when we found out that we would not be starting our day with you on Kbig any longer. I tried to continue to listen to Kbig this last, but it just isn't the same so I changed the station(maybe I'll even go back to country for a while).
I am happy to hear that you will be letting us know were you'll be going on your next adventure.
I have worked in accounting for number of companies sense 1979 landing in the home builders industries in 1988. Last year I got laid off , I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I went temporary, and when I get a new assignment I tell my friends "I'm on a new adventure".
So Charlie enjoy all your new adventures.
Looking forward to listening to you again.

Sorry to Hear You're No Longer on KBIG

Charlie,
I know you're getting thousands of emails, but I just wanted to quickly express my appreciation for all the years of enjoyment you brought me while listening to you. I know it's not much consolation, but the new format on KBIG kind of stinks (I'm trying to be nice) and I'm pretty much back to primarily FISH and KOST (o.k., I'm a flipper). They say when God closes one door he opens another and I am sure there are such bigger and better blessings and opportunities coming your way. Thanks again for all the years!

Hi Charlie,
I don’t have to tell you how wonderful my mornings were when I listened to your show. My alarm clock/radio had been acting up lately and KBIG was coming in with a lot of static, so I changed the channel for my morning wake up call to Mark and Kim on KOST. Friday morning, I decided to try KBIG again and found Valentine on in the morning. So, I thought you were on vacation. Again, this morning he was on but I noticed no mention of him replacing you for the week or anything like that. So, I am here at work and decided to check about you online. I was devastated!! I’m so sorry to hear you’re gone !! Maybe this is God’s way of opening up bigger and better doors for you. And now, that I switched back to KBIG, I just read your email about Kim being gone from the Mark and Kim show. They just celebrated their 25th Anniversary !!
Radio is definitely changing.
I wish you lots of luck, Charlie, and please keep me posted as to where you’ll be next.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Good morning Charlie,
I have listened to you at work and in my cars and at home since you were at KHJ. I have even met your friend Mike Sakellarides. You two are the classiest personalities on radio. We have changed our station at work, I don’t listen to KBIG in the car anymore and I guess I will only listen to CD’s at home. When will big corporations get the big picture? Anyway, we at work will miss you and we will keep reading tuna talk to see where you and Mike might show up next. Keep the faith, baby

We know you'll be back soon. A joy to listen to you every morning on the way to school.
One thing's certain...you'll be here long after the bosses are gone....

I know I'm a little late (I'm a school principal, so my days are really, really busy!), but since you're not "on" in the mornings, I've now changed my radio station. I do want to sincerely thank you; you gave me a positive attitude each morning, with your program. You made me laugh and keep things in perspective, which is important when you work with kindergarten through eighth graders. I do hope to hear you on the radio VERY soon. You ARE MISSED!

I, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, don't do well with change. I enjoyed listening to you, and all your stories. You made morning fun. I'm sure you'll be back and better than ever.
I've been trying to give this "new" thing a chance.... I'm not liking it.....Not taking care of what the listeners want, oh well.... KHJ all over again... and on to looking for another station.

Charlie,
I started listening to you in early 1978, when you were working at 93 KHJ. You are going to be missed, and my drive to work won't be the same. I know that this not goodbye; it is just so-long for now. I have a question- have you ever worked anything other than a morning shift on the radio? Rest assured, I will back with you when you are back on the air- it will happen sooner than you think. In the mean while, take a well-earned rest. You deserve it.

Charlie,
I have listened to kbig since you have been on it in the morning hours. I have a hard time dealing with many of the stuff that goes on in my life and just hearing your voice in the morning gave me an out to my life's hectic stuff I deal with. I have had a hard few years and these last few just having you on in the morning is something I am familiar with and helped me get thru the day. I have had a memory loss of some stuff in my life, but one thing I could always look forward to was you in the morning, I miss that. I did not realize how much I looked forward to that. I feel like it was almost like a security for me to help me get thru each day. I loved listening to you every morning. I do not sleep much and so I start my work very early in the morning and I had you on every day. I miss that time listening to you. I do not understand why people change something that is not broke. I wish you the best of luck in your career. And what ever you decide from what I see you will have many followers to follow you where ever you go, and that next lucky radio station will be lucky to have you as a team player. It is sad that KBIG thought they needed to change and I guess it is their loss.
Good luck and take care. You have brought many smiles to me every morning to help me get thru some tough road bumps in my life and look forward to hearing you once again.

I still miss you in the AM. I can not stand the new format and have left the radio station..... I even tried to listen from the computer it is so different. You are lucky that you are not there. I can not believe you would even back the station. I believe you would have left. How different it is from the "on the air" and on the computer "on the air". I am checking into your site often to see what radio station you will go to. Best wishes always!

Hi Charlie Tuna,
My husband and I listened to you and your KBIG gang regularly and we feel a great loss. We have been to all the Disco concerts and we listened to other shows on KBIG as well. We hope that you get back on the air soon. KBIG management is out to lunch. What a bunch of morons. They had a good thing going and they blew it.
Please have faith. When one door is closed, another window opens. God has some wonderful things planned for you. He is giving you some well deserved rest, so you just relax, get charged because soon a window will open up and the whole world will be yours. You will have more success than ever. I have faith in you and I know that you will be back better than ever.
All the best to you and your family. Keep us informed about your next move on your website.

Charlie Tuna is retiring??????? knave....bite your tongue!!!!!!!!
Dear Charlie......(you wouldn't remember me, but as one of the many millions of fans, I remember you.....)
I wonder if your civilian fans know how dear you are to your millions (yes I said millions) of military fans? I will be 62 this Dec 2007 and when anybody asks me about my broadcasting career and who were my heros, the name Charlie Tuna is one of those examples. I graduated from a small broadcasting school in Boston MA in 1967, joined the USAF in 68, became an AFRTS "radio-TV star in 72 and retired for the USAF after 2 yrs at AFRTS in Sun Valley on "LaTuna Canyon Road" in 1992. Gerry Fry, Gene Plunkett, the late Bob Castle, Bill Houck and a thousand other guys taught me to aim high.....and trying to become a pro like Charlie Tuna in front of a studio microphone was as high as you could aim. The millions of schticks we heard in Europe, the Far East and at the remote sites in Greenland, Korea, Iceland, et al on the AFRTS Charlie Tuna show gave us that daily belly laugh that helped us thru the days and nights. Adrian Cronoure may have had his nitch with Good Morning Viet Nam....but Charlie Tuna telling us how it was back home was just as unforgettable. Personally, my favorite is an old platter from "Programer's Digest" with Charlie Tuna doing a couple of bits about "The Last Contest from KCBQ, San Diego." I tell the young'uns about it today and they think I'm hallucinating. Who would give away prizes like that and all you had to do was call in to win, call in to win, call in to win.
One of my many memories is meeting you face to face and the warm handshake you gave me at the world-wide in 1992. You, Bob Kingsley, Harry Newman and a few other AFRTS DJ's were there and we were impressed that you actually took the time to meet and greet and show some genuine interest in your less-experienced colleagues in the military broadcasting profession. And those of us who had celebrity-voiced bumpers for their AFN/FEN/AFKN/AFVN/AFRTS local shows...felt like kings to own those little drop-ins for their shows overseas. Thank you again for all the years of inspiration and genuine support. You really did make a difference in our lives and those of our/your listeners to a larger degree than you will ever know. (the foregoing was not a paid political comentary.....but we would vote for Charlie for President a lot quicker than Hillary, Barack, Rudi, Mitt or any of those other political flunkies......AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!

Charlie,
I e-mailed you previously after you were let go from KBIG and let you know how much I was upset about it. I miss your morning show, and haven't listened to the station since. Since then, I started listening to Rick Dees in the morning in the car, and KOST once I got to work. I can stream KOST on my computer. Since KOST started playing only Christmas music, I stopped listening, as I can't handle all of that Christmas music so early. So, needless to say, I wasn't aware of Kim being fired until I read it on your web-site. Well, that's another radio station I won't be listening to anymore. My opinion of Clear Channel is pretty low at this point. First Rick Dees was let go a couple of years ago (stopped listening to KIIS at that point), then you and now Kim. Rick Dees has found his way back on the air, and I know you will too.
I log on to your site several times a week to get my Charlie fix and to read your daily updates. I also enjoy reading the e-mails you have received from your many long time fans. I too started listening to you and Rick Dees when you were both at KHJ. KHJ was the first radio station that I listened to on a daily basis.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and look forward to hearing you back on the radio soon.

Radio is not the same without you. I won once on your show. I won 31 Flavor Gift Certificates.
I have been without a "home" radio station since. Thinking I would switch to Kost- now am possibly radio stationless again. For they took Mark's partner away. I am saddened to hear about all the great personalities going. Radio isn't the same - I tend to use my CD's now. Will always be a Tuna fan.............................. We miss you lots and it is definitely not the same without you on the air.

Dear Charlie:
When I heard your radio show had been cancelled, I knew my pending exit from LA was indeed the right thing for me. Now, just days after moving to Dallas, I hear that the fat cats have also broken-up the Mark+Kim team, another one of my radio pleasures. Today, the city does not shine as bright, and seems to have lost it's way. Now I know I can never go back to the City of Lost Angels. I wish you a bright holiday season, and best wishes for a prosperous 2008.
