Your character has always shined through
Received: 01/31/2008 @ 2:08pm PST
From: Diane Korpinen

Hi Charlie,

I sure miss you on the air. On your last day, I e-mailed a friend of mine who worked at another station in your office and had him give you my e-mail. It just told my many memories from years of listening to you and being a loyal follower of you. I remembered your morning breakfast serials/cereals, your sports talk with Ed Arnold, your top 10 lists and entertainment reports and interviews. I went to personal appearances and events and I even won tickets to Disneyland's Space Mountain opening - from you! And when I was in college and had to research and interview someone, you were kind enough to spend a couple of hours with me. I still have that tape(cassette). Your true quality came though in everything you did. You have a talent for making everyone you speak with feel important and be important to your audience. You seem like such a real and genuinely nice person and it really comes across the airwaves. I enjoyed your marriage of Kiis AM and FM, and how on anniversaries of the earthquake, you played 'I Feel The Earth Move' as you did when it happened. Since you've been off the air, I have not found any person or station that comes even close to your shows. I never really listened around before - because I listened to you - but so much of what is on the air is not quality. Or the DJ's do not come across as caring about anyone but themselves - and their shows suffer for it. They are not enjoyable or entertaining - as you always were. They also are not very appropriate for kids - and I ALWAYS felt comfortable having you on with my kids in the car. I can't wait to hear you again and will keep tuning into your website for updates. I'm ashamed that I haven't directly e-mailed you sooner - and I do hope that Ron did give you my initial e-mail on your last day. Please know that you did inspire me - and I graduated with my RTVF degree and went into radio myself (office managing/bookkeeping, some trafficing, and on-air sports). As you venture forward, if you ever are starting something and need behind the scenes help, please get in touch. You just are quality and a gentleman from the get-go, and I'd be proud to help or be a part of whatever you might be involved with. I really enjoyed the quote that you left the radio with - your character has always shined through the airwaves. Over and out - Diane Korpinen

Hi Charlie,

I have been enjoying reading your daily updates and check up on what you are up to.
Thanks for keeping us informed and I would like to ask how are those amazing dogs and
cats of yours, any earthquake predictions? Did your Mom get home safe or is she still here with you? I too have given up on your former station, they really miss the mark. Just repeating what so many of your other listeners have said, WE MISS YOU!

Thank you for being the best!

Hi Charlie, Just dropping by to say hello and hope all is well with you and your family.

Do you still have your cats? (two?) We just recently added another cat to our family. That makes three cats. We also added a Chihuahua that we got from the Orange County shelter. So the animals outnumber us. Us is me, my mother and daughter. I will tell you about our animals another time - they're just wonderful to be around.

So... we're still waiting to hear you sometime soon.

Thanks,

Lorraine

Since you left 104.3 I have tried other stations but can't find you. Are you still on the air - some place, any place? I miss your sense of humor in the mornings. So what's the scoop on where you are? Give me a hint.

I'm the one that mixed you up with someone from Chicago a while back. So help me find you.

Hi Charlie,

I, like everyone else am really looking forward to your (hopefully) good news next week. I'm glad to see I've not been the only one to check your website daily just to get a 'Tuna' fix.

BTW, I was deadly serious about that letter writing campaign. I even downloaded a list of LA Radio stations and addresses just in case we needed to go to the mat for you. Never underestimate the power of a ticked off Scorpio when she's on a mission. :)

I have a feeling once we get the info of your next new station and all your fans and listeners tune in, your numbers will crush your former station (insert wicked laugh here) and justice will be served. Now, let's get you back to work, break's over buddy.

All kidding aside, you've been sorely missed and I can't wait to program whatever your new station will be on my dial. Have an amazing day.

Take care.

I just don't understand what KBIG was thinking. I don't listen at all anymore. It's not fun. (When you're stuck in traffic you HAVE to have fun!) I'll be waiting patiently.

God bless you, CT

Hi Charlie,

I have listened to you forever, I can’t even remember how long! But I had a picture of you in my mind. I hope you aren’t offended, I pictured you to look like most radio personalities, kinda fat, and really old looking! But boy was I wrong! I saw your picture on your website. I think it’s great that you are as handsome on the outside as your personality is on the radio.

Since you've been off your morning show, I've listened around and there's no one that can take your place. I hope I get a chance to hear you again soon.

Hi Charlie,

Just wanted to thank you for all the years of a most enjoyable morning show. I was looking for something to listen to when I woke up that didn't have yelling, dirty language, or anger. It is very hard to find, believe it or not. I wanted to wake up laughing and have fun. You've always had that as part of your program. Hurry back, and I hope to be listening for a long time.

Love,

Melissa

Charlie

I was in the Military for 20 years and stationed overseas for most of my time, and your voice was always there with us. We had "THE CHARLIE TUNA SHOW" to listen to. You carried the service men and women on your back, just like we carry the packs.

The servicemen & servicewomen around the world loved the things you did, and you always brought a bit of home to them. Thanks to you, you have touched and still touch so
many lives every time you open that microphone. I hope we get to listen to you again soon.

Thanks for all you do & still do.

Dear Charlie Tuna!
When and where can I hear your voice again on the radio?
I have been lost trying to listen to other radio stations in the morning.
I miss your personality and lifting spirit. Your former radio station has lost my patronage.
The new people do not have your sense of humor.
I am looking forward to hearing your voice soon on the radio.
Your Fan, Sally

Charlie, I can't tell you how much i'm looking forward to your return to the radio. You and your gang in the morning made listening so much fun, and there's no one I've found who can take your place. I think sometimes that a lot of radio people forget some of us have children in the car listening because there are so many times that crude comments have made me change the station. That was never a problem with your show.

You're simply the best! Please hurry back.

Your fan Patty, with Heather and Bobby

FM radio question
Received: 01/20/2008 @ 11:42am PST
From: Regina King

Hello, Mr. Tuna,

Question came up among some of us at work, when did you switch to FM and what station in L.A.? I think it was KIIS, but my friend said she thinks it was KHITS.

Also i know of your tv work because back in 1987 i went to NBC in Burbank and went to three tapings of Scrabble with Chuck Woolery. and you were doing your warm up act and picked me out of the audience for a funny magic trick. Thank You for your time.

Regina

(NOTE TO REGINA: I switched to FM in 1973 when I moved to KKDJ which 2 years later changed their call letters to KIIS. By that time, I was not only their morning man, but also their Program Director. You're also right about "Scrabble"! I worked as the announcer and warm-up man for Chuck Woolery for 7 years at NBC beginning in the mid 80's!)

Charlie: I'm currently listening to your exchange with R.J. on his new Whodaguyhawaii.com site. So great to hear you again. I miss the old KHJ days. I grew up in the S.F. Bay Area and occasionally would get to L.A. and hear the "A" team. KFRC was good, but not that good. Too bad you never made it to The Big 610!!!

Anyway, wanted to say thanks for reminding us how good radio can be. Great bit with R.J. talking up Love Is Blue!

One last thing. I have a very extensive collection of Top 40 memorabilia from most of the Drake consulted stations. I have a couple of promo photos of you and would love to have you sign for my collection.
Any possibility of getting you to sign and send back.

Would greatly appreciate it.

Another Boss fan, Marc Schoenitzer

Hello,
I just wanted to take a moment to drop by and say that I have enjoyed your broadcasts for many years, going back to KHJ and later KKDJ. I am in my late forties and I grew up in Los Angeles and was glued to my transistor radio throughout the late sixties and well into the seventies. It's great that you are still doing it! Congratulations on a successful career!!
As I type this out I am listening to a 1969 KHJ aircheck featuring a broadcast by none other than you! Have you listened to any of your old broadcasts? Their is a great interest in old radio broadcasts from the fifties through the seventies. I love hearing the old commercials and news segments. Truly nostalgic.
I am a huge collector of gold and platinum record awards. My collection is quite numerous, leaning heavily on gold 45s from the sixties and seventies. I bought some from Ron Jacobs some years ago. What a character! Great raconteur. Wonderful stories of the Boss radio days.
Once again, I really have enjoyed your work. Your broadcasts always bring back great nostalgic feelings because your voice is like an old friend! Is that too corny?
Sincerely,
Doug Leftwich

I really miss you and the old radio stations name

Dear Charlie the Tuna man,

I really miss listening to the birthday segments and I miss hearing you at the Tunathon at The Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. I was hoping that you would have had the Tunathon at the CHOC Hospital in the city of Orange someday, but that's not gonna come true anyways. I miss the radio station's name K-Big. Damn that Clear Channel they can go to hell for all I care. Clear Channel broke my heart by changing my #1 radio station in the whole world name to a no good for nothing name like MY FM. I like the name K-Big better because I grew up listening to K-big NOT freakin' MY FM a very stupid name for a former great radio station. Well anyways I am just letting you know what I feel about the new name for the station and that lame company called Clear Channel. Don't be mad I even listened to The Mark and Kim show also in the mornings also on KOST 103.5. They made my broken heart even worse by Mark announcing on November 29, 2007 that Kim Amidon got fired also. I really don't like Clear Channel for doing that. Well I just letting you know how I feel about this whole thing called radio and changing things too much. I bet a lot of fans are heart broken from K-big and Kost listeners alike. talk to you later! I miss you so much! Bye!

I miss hearing you on KBIG in the morning. It's just not the same! What have you been up to? I've been listening to you for years and years (I won't say how long.....let's just say I remember KHJ) and was very upset and disappointed when you "disappeared" from KBIG. I'm glad you'll be back on the air soon! Both my husband and I will stay tuned!!
