On the radio
Received: 04/21/2008 @ 7:13pm PST
From: Robert Streeton
Hi Charlie Tuna;
We listen to you on KRTH and we're so happy to hear your voice again. As soon as we heard you were booted off of the other radio station that we listened to only because of you, we switched to KRTH.
We really enjoy listening to you and welcome you back into our lives and ears.
We love you. Please hang around for a long time as your listeners are very supportive and loyal and want to hear you whenever and wherever possible.
Welcome back!
Your loyal fans,
Bob and Ronna

Heard your show yesterday from LA Zoo

Hi Charlie,
I've been a big fan for many years. I actually started my radio career in late 1972. I've always considered you a mentor. I hadn't heard you in quite some time and then yesterday(Sunday,April 20), while surfing the internet I found you, just starting your show. Like yourself I'm not on air full time anymore. I'm producing ads during the week and hosting a live Saturday morning Retro Rewind show on OCEAN100 with the 70s at 7, 80s at 8, 90s at 9 & Classic Top 10 at 10. I'm still loving every second. Anyway it was great to hear you.
Thanks

Correct e-mail address?
Received: 04/20/2008 @ 3:33pm PST
From: Craig Halsey House
¡Hey, der, Charlie!
I hope this is the correct e-mail address for you. Unfortunately, my wonderful computer system has been in storage for about 3 1/2 years, and I think this is e-mail address I had on it for you.
In any case, I tried to snail-mail a letter to you, in c/o KRTH, a couple of weeks ago regarding Bobby Fischer's passing, along with me having the great pleasure of defeating him in 50-game simultaneous exhibition that he gave 44 years ago in Santa Monica. However, it came back as "Attempted - Not Known". Hey, I know you're on KRTH now, and I simply don't understand why the USPS would say you weren't there.
I also sent you another letter about "Part of the Story," regarding my efforts to become Thurl Ravenscroft's successor as the voice of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes' "Tony the Tiger" after Thurl passed, but it wasn't returned, so I'd like to think that you received it.
Now, I would also like to send that letter to Gene Price, but I can't that place in Los Angeles for him anymore. Do you possibly have a mailing address for him?
Thanks for your help, Charlie!

You have my vote
Received: 04/20/2008 @ 1:29pm PST
From: Jeff Detrow
Charlie -
I've circled May 1st to remind me to vote for you for the Hall of Fame. Of course for your radio work, but for one other reason that sticks with me through the years. About ten years ago, my radio partner and I were on a panel with you at some radio convention here in San Diego. I will never forget you pointing out that your major achievements were things like being a good coach on your kid's ball team, and that was what really mattered in your life. Well, I've sure been to a lot of those radio or morning show conventions, and it still echoes in my mind that someone spoke up for what really brings satisfaction and true achievement in life.
Congratulations on your nomination. You have my vote.
Regards,
Jeff Detrow

Happy Birthday Charlie

I wanted to wish you a happy belated birthday. I am so glad that you are on the radio again and that I am able to listen to you on the weekends. It is so great to hear your voice again.
I wanted to let you know that the earthquake that was in Illinois was felt in Logansport Indiana. I felt it and I thought I was back in California. My two cats were sleeping on my lap and then did not even react to the earthquake.
Best wishes

Happy Birthday
Received: 04/18/2008 @ 11:02pm PST
From: Happy Birthday
Hey Charlie,
Funny thing happen today as I was thinking about Ubon RTAFB, Thailand where I was stationed 1970 thru 1972. In my circling thoughts I recalled AFTN and you, I did a search on the Internet for “Charlie Tuna” and I found you! Surprised, I found you on your Birthday Day! Happy Birthday Charlie!! We were in a class together in the Philippines I believe 74 or 75 or it could have been 82 85 I can’t remember which. On a break, I spoke to you and asked what type of work do you do and you told me who you were. We shook hands and I never got a chance to thank you for the support you gave me and my co-workers and friends over the airwaves. I worked on the noisy flight line, and it was a comfort to see the red flag at the Ubon post office to go up and to hear you on the radio. Thank you so much!

(NOTE TO C E: Here's an even funnier thing, I've been on the air in Los Angeles since 1967, so whoever introduced himself as me in your class in the Philippines wasn't me. But you're not alone, so many AFRTS listeners have told me that they met me in this country or that country around the world while my AFRTS show was on from 1971 to 1996. There were a lot of guys who passed themself off as me, on dates, personal appearances, business deals, you name it, but if you want to see the real me, just check my website's photo gallery over the years. There are pictures of me all the way back to the 60's posted, and except for speaking to a radio convention in Australia in the 70's and vacation trips to Canada and Hawaii, I've been right here on the mainland since the 60's. Sorry, but it wasn't me you met.)

Memories of times past
Received: 04/18/2008 @ 9:23am PST
From: Todd Schuster
Charlie, although I live in the New York City area, I will always remember the times when you announced for Casey Kasem on his American Top 10 television show but especially when you announced for Chuck Woolery on Scrabble in the 1980’s. No offense to the late Jay Stewart whom you replaced, but you have a nice soothing voice that meshed in well with the show. You & Chuck made a great tandem during that time. I have to ask you what is Chuck really like? Is he this nice Kentucky boy who laughs at himself or is it just an act? I see him on Lingo today & he still looks fabulous at 67. Anyway, best of luck in this endeavor on K-Earth & keep on rocking. Best wishes.
Todd Schuster
(NOTE TO TODD: My impression of Chuck Woolery from having worked with him for nearly 7 years is that Chuck is exactly off the screen the way you see him on the screen. Just a genuinely nice person, who has a great sense of humor and very self deprecating too. He truly cares about his audience and is basically still a down home Kentucky boy who is respectful, polite and humble with everyone he meets.)
