College

From: Cynthia Zaldivar

Hi Charlie,

Quick Question – did you ever go to St. Mary’s University (between 1979-1981)? I went to school with a charlie tuna and he was the nicest guy. Write me back!

Thanks,
CIndy

NOTE TO CINDY: No, sorry, that wasn’t me! My college was Nebraska University/Kearney for my freshman year, and Wichita State University for my sophomore year, and then my radio career, which I had working on the air since I was a sophomore at Kearney High School in Nebraska, started to take off, and after stops in Oklahoma City and Boston, I was on the air in Los Angeles less than 2 years later, where I’ve been since 1967, so I was college dropout.

Thanks for the broadcast

From: Tim Allmond

Hey Charlie,

I was big fan of your show back in the ’70′s.  My Dad was stationed with the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. Back then the Japanese Government blocked every attempt by the US Navy to establish a closed circuit TV station that would have greatly benefited the military community.  Your hour long broadcast on the Far East Network (810 AM) was heard Monday ~ Friday nights between the hours of 8:05 pm and 9:00 pm.  The first five minutes of the hour were reserved for station identification and news.

At 9:05 pm the Armed Forces Radio & Television Service (AFRTS) would play and hour’s worth of “Old Time Radio” shows for our enjoyment.

We found it rather ironic that the Army, Marine and Air Force bases were allowed this technology that was forbade the US Navy.  Personally I think it had something to do with the fact that the articles of surrender were signed on a US Navy ship. But that’s just my opinion.

Any way, I want to take this opportunity to say a heart felt, and long over due “Thank You!”  You have no idea what a morale booster your show (and other stateside radio broadcast) did for the American Community, Military and Civilian.

Sincerely,

Tim Allmond (SOV – Son Of a Veteran)

To clean the bubble gum off your walk of fame star, use WD-40, or areally neat trick, laundry prewash (spray) and a putty knife. I’m a MOM. I know these things, so let me come to your rescue on Father’s Day.

Have a good one, Luv ya,

Box Office America.

From David Pickerall

Hi Charlie,

Just a quick post to say, I used to watch Box Office America in the UK, and it’s one of the reason’s why I have such an appreciation for film, there was nothing like seeing a new trailer that you knew nothing about and it would just blow you away, and the way you ended with a song from a current movie.

Thanks again and I hope your OK.

Dave.

Sending along the photo of Marlo

From: Dona Hannon

Hi Charlie,

I took this photo just after we spoke today. I’m sending along the photo of you and Marlo Thomas. It was taken 36 years ago. I have some photos…of Danny as well from another St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ALSAC fundraiser he attended.

I miss the days of KHJ. I think back anytime I drive by the studio. I still can hear the jingle “93 KHJ”

Great to say “hi” today, I have been meaning to for years. You, The Real Don Steele and Machine Gun Kelly-Mr. X, one night, when he was sick…, are what made KHJ the best! You have touched the hearts of many!

The best to you now and always!
