Hi,

Saw Edna's story on 38 Lemon as well as on your site. I'm also a brain tumor survivor and a true success story. I had risky surgery almost 9 years ago and am just fine. Would love to contact Edna (mother & daughter). Would it be possible to contact them via your website?

Thanks,

Ceil Davis

(NOTE TO CEIL: Thank you for your note. I forwarded your email onto the Edna’s, and hopefully they’ll be touch with you. Congratulations on your survivor story! I sure the Edna’s would love to share their feelings with yours. Continued good health and God’s blessings in your life!)

Singer for READ MY MIND?

Hello,

Hope you receive this. Do you know the singer for a song played on KRTH at times called READ MY MIND, at least those are the first words, not 100% sure that is the title.

Thank you..Bob Canoga Park

NOTE TO BOB: Sounds like “If You Could Read My Mind” by Gordon Lightfoot. Don’t recall us playing it recently, but it is a hit from the 70’s.

Children's Hospital LA
Received: 09/13/2008 @ 6:26am PST
From: Sandy Snow

Good morning Charlie,

My name is Sandy Snow and I was one of the lucky ones that won a visit with you at the radio station. At the time I told you I was working for Kamar Innovation Toy Group, a company that was coming out with a new toy called "Skoodlez" that encourages children to read and write while having fun.

Well, Skoodlez are now out at Macy's exclusively and we are doing a Mobile Story Machine tour across the US visiting schools and hospitals. We are starting in New York and ending in California in November. We are stopping at schools and the Children's hospital in each city that we visit including Children's Hospital in Los Angeles to donate Skoodlez to every child in the hospitals. I know that you are very involved with the Children's Hospital here in Los Angeles and wanted to know if you would be interested in joining us when we arrive at the hospital in Los Angeles? I have attached the calendar of events and pictures of our Story Mobile.

We are also giving each child that brings a used book to the various events a "Samoleez" coin which allows them to go and sign up on the website to write their own stories and read other children's stories. We are then donating all of the books to the libraries in that area.

You can also see what Skoodlez are all about by visiting www.Skoodlez.com and taking the tour. I know you have a very busy schedule but I hope you can join us on November 16th.

Angel Blessings,

Sandy

Hey everyone!
Just to let you all know that if you want to hear some great blues music at the Fair, my cousin Bill Stuve is playing bass guitar with a fabulous sax player Terry Hanck, guitar player Johnny Cat, & drummer Butch Cousins at the Avalon across from the Grandstand, Weds thru Sun from around 7:30 p.m. They'll be there for the duration of the Fair & if I do say so myself, they do a hot show! If you do go to see them, tell Bill that his cousin from D-land sent you. I went on Wednesday night, and it was slower than the weekends. There's no cover charge, but you know the Fair, sodas are $4.00.
Hope you all are doing great! I miss getting together with my friends! I'll be at the Fair Saturday afternoon, hiding out at the Top of the Park restaurant to watch the horse races.
See you soon!

Hey Charlie,

I just wanted to say hi. I have been thinking a lot about you the past few days. I am grateful that Paige brought you into our lives and the "Peterson vortex". We really missed you last month. It was good, but not the same. Without you, the "heart" is missing.

Love,

Suzanne

(NOTE TO READERS AND LISTENERS: Suzanne is the mother of Paige Peterson who died of Neuroblastoma cancer a few years ago, after being one of the real inspirations for beginning my "Tunathon" fund raisers for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Paige was a remarkable young lady of optimism and spirit rarely seen in even healthy people. She lived to be 11 years old, longer than Doctors had given her a chance, and she was so looking forward to her teenage years. Jennifer Lopez, after getting to know Paige, even dedicated one of her albums to Paige's memory. I still have Paige's button Suzanne gave me that I wore for all the Tunathons to remind me of this little angel who I'm sure is watching all of us from Heaven.)

Saw this and thought of all the things kids misunderstand:

One day my young daughter and I were listening to an old tune by Simon and Garfunkel. When the song finished, she asked me, "Well, did he?"

"Did he what?"

"Did Parsley save Rosemary in time?" she asked.

Dear "Charlie Tuna" :0)

It was a pleasure meeting you on the phone just a minute ago. My name is Marian Rudnyk, besides being a former NASA asteroid-hunting Astronomer, and a special effects artist on movies like TITANIC, and now a writer (more about me at www.spacetiki.com ) - but ALSO :0))) I am the 4th biggest collector in the world of cereal boxes & cereal toys :0)!!!

Attached is a pic of the 1969 AD for the Archies records (one of which was Sugar Sugar). (I also own all these cutout records).

Now as to your question: People are confusing 2 similar cereals when they think it was Sugar Pops. It was not. Sugar Pops was by Kellogs and had the "Dig'em Frog" on the front of the box. However - the correct answer is Super Sugar Crips - by POST - which features the famous "Sugar Bear" on the front of the box!

So again: the correct and definitive answer is: Super Sugar Crisp - by POST

Take a peek at the attched picture of the 1969 advertisement to confirm (and note all the fiunny/cool other ARCHIES toys!!!).

THANX for an "as-always" GREAT radio show - ALWAYS LOVE IT!!!! :0)))

We have you on the radio here ALL the time!!!!

Sincerely

Marian

Hey Charlie,

Just want to congratulate you on your induction into the Radio Hall Of Fame!

My dad was career Air Force and a DJ, among other things, with AFRTS. He worked with many of the great DJ's, including you, Wolfman Jack, and Casey Kasem back in the late 60's and early 70's over on McCadden Place in Hollywood. I was just a youngster then and use to tag along with him during the summer when I was out of school. It is truly a shame that they cut the funding for such a great service to our troops.

It's a pleasure to hear you on K-RTH now.

Keep spinning those tunes.

Cheers!

(NOTE TO READERS: Don was the first guy I hired when I was the 18 year old Program Director and Morning Man at my hometown station in Kearney, Nebraska. We took off for Dallas, Texas about a year later to get our First Class Radio Licenses which consisted of 4 weeks of intense schooling at Elkins Radio Institute in Dallas to prepare us for a 100 question and then a 50 question test at the FCC office in Dallas we had to pass to get our licenses, which the bigger stations required in those days as an engineering qualifiction too. Don and I went on to work together in Wichita, and then later I did voicework for a station he managed in Oklahoma. We've kept in touch ever since we were teenagers.)

name of song and recording artist

From: Carol Matheso

Hi, I'm a high school teacher in the south bay.

I would like to know the name of a song recorded in the yesteryear 60's - 80's where a son was talking to his dad about growing up to be just like him. However, dad, never had time for the son. Recently, I heard a new version with a female artist and a "rap"? artist. Can you help me with the name of the song and albums for both versions?

I would use them to demonstrate to the students that it's all about how the message is delivered.

Thank you
Carol

(NOTE TO CAROL: First, congratulations on doing the most important work of all, teaching!
The name of the song is “Cats In The Cradle”. The late Harry Chapin was the original writer and performer. Ugly Kid Joe was one of the other artists who had a hit with it, plus Guns and Roses, Johnny Cash and the female version by Dilana from Rockstar Supernova. I’ve also heard there was a Run DMC version with Sheryl Crow.

Here's a YouTube video of Harry Chapin performing it "live". I knew Harry Chapin when he was alive as he was a frequent guest on my radio show, and I told him this was one of my all-time favorite songs!

Good luck with your students and thanks on behalf of all of us for doing what you do!)

Charlie,

I just wanted to say thank you for being one of those rare people whose voice reminds me that things are OK in the world, and reminds me of home.

When I was young my family moved around a lot due to jobs, family struggles and so on (I heard you when you were on KHJ and other LA stations when I was living there). So, I didn't have many long-term friends. And as I grew up, I moved around the world with the military, continuing the same pattern of being on the move. But no matter where I went, when I heard your voice on the radio, I always felt I was home.

I'm grateful to you, Charlie, and want to say thanks.

Best Regards,
Donald

Hi Charlie,

I knew you at the Kearney Nebraska Youth Center where you became our DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.  Contacts with KGFW in Kearney provided you with opportunities to Spring Board into stardom.  I was the Youth Center Director at Kearney and we considered you a tremendous asset to "keeping things going well" at the Youth Center.

I've listened to you frequently over the years.  Norma (Shafer) and I have been retired for a number of years now and currently reside in Ransom Canyon, TX (about six miles east of Lubbock, TX)  In fact, my son and I listened to your program this past Saturday on a brief road trip.  I have just read your website and with great note feel that in a very small way, I knew you in Kearney, Nebraska, during your High School years.

I will miss my 55th reunion of the Class of 1953 this month, because I was selected as a 2008 Honoree within the USS HORNET CVA-12 Association, in St. Louis, MO, at the same time as our class reunion.  I served aboard the USS HORNET   during the Korean War, and she is now a museum at Alameda, CA.

Look forward to your programs and maybe some day, I will try to give you a call.

Fred Harvey

NOTE TO LISTENERS AND READERS: Fred was one of the 2 Kearney Youth Center directors that oversaw the Friday and Saturday dances for the kids in my hometown, where I first started my DJ career emceeing the dances and introducing the songs just like I do on the radio now. It was great training for my eventual radio career, and thanks to the encouragement of my mom and dad, Fred, and all the kids in Kearney I grew up with, I did get a job at the local Kearney radio station (KGFW) as a sophomore in High School, and the rest as they say is history.)

Hi Mr Tuna

I caught a few minutes of you on the air on Sunday and heard you talking of a great video clip of a guy singing a pack of puppies to sleep.  I searched the Kearth site but was not able to locate where that video clip is located.  Can you help me find it.  thanks  bobby

(NOTE TO BOBBY AND DIANE (below): It’s on the “NEWS” section of my website. Just scroll down to the Tuesday, August 26th “NEWS” section, which is headed by a picture of a human brain in a jar...a bit below that is a Moscow traffic jam picture and below that you’ll see the video of the puppies that you can click and play.)

Hi Charlie,

I was listening to your show today and you played a clip of a man singing Goodnight Sweetheart to his puppies. Where can I find this clip? It sounded so cute I would really like to see it.

I am a high school teacher and I keep my radio tuned to k-earth 101. I thought that you might get a kick out of knowing that my students all say that "our" music is the best!

Hi Charlie,

It was great seeing you last week at the Home and Garden Show in Pasadena. It's been a long time since we put together the charity softball games back in the 70s. It was so cool to see the picture of you and Brian Wilson on your website. It brought back some wonderful memories since I also had the privilege to play in that game. Check out the pictures of last week I put together for you to check out. Thanks again and hope to see you soon.

Hi Charlie!

When I listen to you I keep reminiscing about those days back in the 70's when I listened to you on 93 KHJ.  That was my favorite station back then.  We also had Robert W. Morgan and the Real Don Steele.  It's great to still have you around!  Keep up the GREAT work!

My friend teases me about being "old" now that I'm 50, but that's okay.  He's a native Chicagoan now 65 years old and  I just give him a taste of his own medicine.  If I'm considered an "antique" he must be ancient!  I must admit he does have great taste when it comes to music and he loves listening to KEARTH 101 also.

Thank you for bringing so much joy and fun to this music lover originally born and raised in Orange County and now living in the city of Ontario.  I loved dancing back in the 70's to your music and still do to this day.  You are truly the greatest station in this nation and on this earth!  Have a beautiful Labor Day weekend.  Thank you so much,

Hi Charlie,

nice to have you back after so many years!

I heard you here in Germany in 1981 for the first time on a AFN-Network in Frankfurt/Main. There were no time announcements but the show started always between Monday andFriday at 09:05 local time.

I want to phone you one day, maybe my telephone sounds good then, at the moment noises all the time while I am talking. I am 42 years old and hope that KRTH will always be able to be heard via the Net.

One day I need to ask "Mr. Music" a question about a song that I heard back in 1987 but I do not know the group who sang it. "Talk of the town" something like that, maybe I sing for you, funny or...???

Still the same Voice as in the old years, good to know that.

Greetings for now!!
Uwe
